Here, have a boring "stuff that I did today" entry:

☆ Went and mailed the package to the person who won my book draw, hooray! Now it's up to the mercy of the postal services. But I paid for tracking and insurance, so it should be... fine... I think. Thank gods I had the foresight to save some of my Christmas money, because that was expensive. And I feel kind of oddly guilty about spending it on something like this, but I think that's because family always gets on my case when they find out I've spend my 'present money' on boring practical things. But like, what would I have spent it on otherwise? Candy, books, music, cologne. Y'know. Stuff I don't need. This, well. It's important and I reallly didn't want to cheap out on postage. Here's hoping it won't take a month to get to its destination... [/crosses fingers]

☆ IT WAS WARM TODAY. IT WAS -12C. I was so happy. Hella' snowy, though. I made the mistake of wearing sneakers instead of snowboots, and the walk to the post office is 40 minutes, and... let's just say I regret everything. 8') But dealing with snowy wet jeans was totally worth it. PLUS!! I SAW A FOX! It was hanging out by the recycle bins, playing in the snow. I tried to get a photo, but I'm not used to using the camera on my mp3 player, so it turned out a little bit... um... well... See for yourself:
Image under cut )
BEHOLD THE MAJESTIC FOXIPEDE. Always make sure you have the panorama setting turned off before attempting wildlife photos. ;p

☆ I wrote today! A lot! Well, not as much as some days, but it was a lot. I've smashed through my wordcount goal for the month; it's kind of crazy. Anyway, it was a pornfic that I'm allllmost finished wording on, so it's great that I managed to be able to go to the cafe today. ...It's kind of funny, I keep hearing people say that they're embarrassed to write that kind of thing in public, because of a feeling that somebody might see it. But like. If somebody is close enough to read my scribbly handwriting, then we have way bigger problems than the fact that I'm writing that kind of thing in public. And ditto for laptop/tablet screens: those screens aren't that big! Unless you're writing in like, 16 pt font, nobody's going to be able to see that unless they're getting way more close and snoopy than they should. ...And that's my feeling on that.

So, I came home today to find a completely unexpected package from Consta. Holy shit, my eyes practically popped out of my head. Totally did not expect it.

Anyway, it was this gorgeous Iceland doujin -

Voila )

Hot damn, is it ever pretty. I've seen scans of this one, but it's even better to hold it and look through it, you know? It looks even better in person. And ahhh, good gods, I never expected at all ---! ;3; Man, that Consta, what an awesome gal. This really made my day, completely.

Anyway, since I've been meaning to, I decided to take a photo of my small doujinshi collection. I'd intended to after receiving the one I got in the mail a few days ago - hadn't, but then there was this, so...!

And so- )

The two on the right side of the photo are ones Consta has sent me, haha. But the three Denmark/Norway comics are ones that I bought myself. (And the one on the far left was the one I received a few days ago. I was so worried that my mum would get to the mailbox first - she has a very annoying habit of occasionally opening my mail when I'm not there. Man, that would have been awkward. ... But maybe if she'd found it, she'd have learned to stop opening my mail, heh.)

Sob, what is this. The doujinshi are multiplying. And then there's this event in a few days... I'll be arranging with some friends for an order. I'm kind of nervous, never done this before, but at the same time it's Very Exciting. On the other hand, oh man, it's kind of hard to narrow it down - there's so many comics I want! But I do know that my heart needs this Sweden/Norway comic. And also that I need something by Norrsken on my shelf, how could I not, ahhhh-!

Oh man, I just feel so flail-y about this. All of it. Everything. It's all very exciting!

So. It snowed yesterday.

Photographic proof )

I am not impressed. Yes, that photo's from yesterday, not from February or anything. Goddamnit, Alberta. Just when it starts turning nice, we get a snow-storm.

When I said "we need some precipitation up in this joint" that's not what I meant.

Not much else to report. Still jobless. Still trying to find time to write. Still a bit stir-crazy. But my parents are going to Edmonton for the weekend, so at least I'll have a few days to myself. I intend to spend them cleaning, researching, writing, and listening to loud music without my headphones on. :)b

It's hard to get any reading done around here because whenever mum sees the history book I've been going through (The Hammer and the Cross, about the vikings) she keeps going on and on and on about how they didn't have any worthwhile culture and they were just barbarians and uncivilized and blah blah blah. And I'm just like -- Yes, okay. This is a time period you don't care much about (and you don't know much about it, either). Why on earth do you think I want your opinion on it? She has a very particular and strict definition of "civilized" anyway (in which case Italy = civilized and everyone else = uncivilized, apparently) and whenever she brings it up it just makes my eyes twitch and gives me the urge to punch things.

... But other than that, everything is fine and dandy over here. I suppose.
yuuago: (SuFin - Morning)
The easiest way to summarize what's been going on with me in the past few days is this photo:

Right on )

In other words:

✿ I've been knitting like a mofo. I'm finally learning how to make mittens, and I FINISHED ONE, YAY. ... But it's too small for me, so when the pair is finished, I'm sending 'em to [livejournal.com profile] sirenspammer. o3ob

✿ I received the Finland one coin figure that [livejournal.com profile] noonish sent to me and he's absolutely adorable ahhhhh

✿ I've been studying! That thing with the blue and yellow flowers on it is my set of flashcards. I still don't remember very many words yet, but uh, I'm getting there.

✿ I finally put frames on all the drawings that I received over the holidays. Y'all are wonderful. <3

All that aside, I can hardly wait to start my job on Monday. I'm really excited about it. Even though I haven't been out of work for long, it's nice to be employed again, hah.

Writing has been difficult lately because I haven't been able to get out of the house. I could have gone out today, but it was -41C and I basically said "Fuck that". I do try to write at home sometimes, but it's difficult when there are people up in my business all the time. It doesn't help that all I've felt like writing lately has been, uh, porn. Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. BUT. Most of the actual productive writing I've been doing is on that non-porn Sweden/Finland thing I've been poking at, which is good. I think maybe I just need to do three or four scenes more, and then the draft will be finished. Fucking finally, I say. I've had this in-progress for about six months, but one would never guess it by the length. I'm just... lazy.
yuuago: (Norway - Derp)
✿ I've been having mood swings all day. There's no explanation for it, and the only conclusion I can come to is that two days home away from work is enough to drive me nuts. My family, I tell ya', they're enough to make anybody loony.

✿ I finally managed to settle down for some studying. Mostly working on small vocabulary. Numbers, that kind of thing. And pronunciation. I swear, I'm going to keep banging my head against it until it sticks. I'm finally on my way toward not mixing up the difference between the way a and ä sound (umlauts aren't there for decoration!) but that's actually only because of, er, something I will never forget about Estonian language (the Estonian word for "two", kaks, sounds kind of like the English word cocks... and the sound in Finnish for kaksi isn't much different). Well, whatever helps, I guess. orz

✿ I have now heard (well, read) someone say that giving a blowjob is similar to playing a harmonica. I don't think I will ever look at my harmonica the same way again. (Though I will say that I'm pretty sure the person making that comparison has never played a harmonica, because uh... it's really... it's not much like that and er I'm just going to be quiet now)

✿ Finally, we went out and bought me a replacement hat. It's not much like what I wanted (I wanted something made in Canada, damnit, and coyote or beaver rather than rabbit fur because it holds up better) but, well, it's not a bad hat. At least it's the right style: full-fur and boxy.
Check it ooouuuut, man )

So, there we go. That's... that's it for now, I think. Considering this entry has been kind of (well, a lot) ridiculous.

(Man, I feel like an idiot. I will possibly regret this silly entry in the morning.)
yuuago: (EstFin - Best Friends)
I hope y'all had an enjoyable Solstice. Mine was spent sleeping, mostly. It's nice to be able to finally get some rest after such a busy week at work.

I've been receiving an awful lot of mail lately. It's so wonderful to come home from work and find packages waiting for me. <3 Hey Uniaamu, I received your card today! It was quite a welcome surprise ahhh. ;3; And Radittz, I don't know if you saw my earlier note, I received your letter too! Earlier in the week, packages from Minni, who sent me enough sweets and salmiakki to last a whole year, and from Diplo, who sent a workbook for Finnish so that I can finally get to work on studying. I'd planned to do that today, but I was too busy sleeping.

... I will have to be sure to get frames for the drawings that Minni and Radittz sent, yeah. But that will wait until Boxing Day.

I have been a little bit stressed out lately because of work and preparations going on at home, but it isn't so bad. I just wish I could get more sleep! Then again, who needs sleep, anyway?

I promise that when January comes, I will be much more interesting to talk to - and there will be fic aplenty, I'm sure! Provided I don't get too lazy to write it.

Oh, one more little thing-

I keep these next to my bed ;3; )
yuuago: (SuFin - Foxfire)
WELL. Let's see.

☆ We put up the tree today. We used to do two trees, one downstairs and one upstairs, but this year we are only doing the upstairs tree, so fortunately it took just the afternoon rather than the whole day. Check it out under the cut-

Very, very sparkly )
'cept, we haven't gotten a new star for it yet, not tinsel neither... but I didn't want to wait to take a photo, haha. Oh, well! So there it is. ... We'll see what it looks like when the dogs get to it. I am not optimistic.

☆ After much thought I've decided to drop French and start setting myself up to learn some Finnish. I'd originally planned to hold out until I finished my French workbook, but I honestly don't think that'll happen - I have no motivation to study French at all, whereas I think that even though I'm busy, I'll have the drive to make time to work on Finnish, because I really like it and want to learn it. I think what finally pushed me, though, was Minni teasing me about how I'd pronounced her surname wrong. Pfft. If I'm going to go there, then at the very least I should learn some pronunciation, goddamn. I don't even know what sounds vowels with umlauts make! This needs to change. ... So I've downloaded some materials and I'll see about getting a workbook somehow, and maybe I'll start this week.

☆ I started reading World War Z the other day and I have a sneaking feeling that I'm going to have a load of nightmares by the end of it. Zombies are one of those things I can't handle -- and yet, I find the idea fascinating. I think it's related to my fascination with plague and contagion, something I also find terrifying. But there's something about zombies that gets me in a way that, say, the Black Death doesn't. Not sure what it is. Regardless, I'll probably find the novel hard to get through, but it's my own fault.

☆ I'm going to be really busy and probably kind of nonsocial in the next few weeks. We'll be heading into Christmas hours, so my time around will be even more limited than usual, and I'll be absolutely exhausted most of the time. I'm not exactly thrilled about this. On the upside, at least I'm going to have Solstice off. I'm willing to put up with this because the pay is good and at least, at the very least, I get Solstice off.

☆ And I'm working on getting the cards done... slowly! There's a lot of you guys. It might take a while.

AHHHHH <3

Okay, I know I updated recently, BUT BUT BUT--

I've been waiting ages for this package to arrive, and I'm so excited!

It was a package of two limited edition prints by one of my favourite artists, Ursula Vernon. She's, er, probably best known for being the person who painted the Biting Pear of Salamanca. A few years ago she put out a limited print illustrating a plague doctor as the Taxman. This year's release was also of that character, and I just had to have them.

I received the package last night, but I was too tired to be excited about it.

Some quick photos of the prints )

I'm just so happy about these, ahhhh. I can hardly wait to get them framed. I still need a proper frame for the original Taxman, actually - right now he's just in a cheap plastic postercover, guh.

I hope that some day I'll be able to own one of her originals, ahhh. But right now most of them are wayyyy out of my price range.

First things first: Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] diplopod! (ノ◉ヮ◉)ノ :。・:*:・゚'✿,。・:*:❀・゚'❁
Just be glad I'm not singing it to you. I always forget the words.

ANYWAY. Now. I haven't been getting as much done as I thought I would because these dogs are a huge pain in the butt, always up in my business. But perhaps today I'll get something more done. We'll see.

I took some photos yesterday! Not much, just one with the dogs and also a little bit of the area near where I live. I couldn't go very far because again, dogs. And I took a bunch but only a few turned out because they kept pulling at the leash and making my hands shake and resulting in blurry photos and fuuuuuu. I'll just post the ones that turned out.

Autumn leaves! And dogs. )
yuuago: (Denmark - Coffee)
I couldn't sleep at all last night. I rolled around for a while, and after a few hours of that, gave up on sleep altogether. I was awake when the sun rose, and after thinking about what to do with my morning, I decided to go down to the river to take photos of graffiti.

Man, there was way more new stuff than I expected. Shooting these was awesome. As usual, I risked life and limb climbing over enormous rocks to get at them. Not gonna' lie, doing that probably is a little dangerous -- it's pretty damn easy to slip and get one's head bashed in. Fortunately I remembered to wear proper shoes this time. Anyway, let's go.

Note: Very graphic heavy )

There are probably a lot more down in there that I didn't even see. But by the time I got down to there, my legs felt like jelly and it was way too warm out and I'd had enough. But I might go down again in a month's time, just to see if there's anything new. We'll see.
yuuago: (Estonia - Our song)
Things have been an enormous clusterfuck lately. Crazy weather. Thunderstorms everywhere! I have no idea what's going on. My own life hasn't been making much sense either.

On a brighter note, I finally started reading the Kalevala. It had been collecting dust on my bookshelf for six months, but I was talking with Bice about it lately, and it turns out we both have the same translation/edition. So, we're going to kind of... read it together, I guess! Should be fun. At the very least, it'll be getting me reading something that requires more brain power to comprehend than Black Jack and Stephen King novels. Not that there's anything wrong with that stuff, but er, I should probably read somethin' else for a while.

So, I started it tonight. I'm only two cantos in, but I really like it so far. This translation is nice, not heavy or thick; it's good for leisure-reading.

Aside from thatttt nothing of note, except that I did get out to take some graffiti photos the other day! Unfortunately, while I did remember bug spray, I forgot to wear proper shoes, so I wasn't able to get any of the river-rocks. However, there was enough in other locations, so there we go. I actually did neglect to get photos of some - I'll have to go back later.

Graffiti in Saskatoon: here we go again )

Aaaand that's it for now - until I remember to go out again, this time with bug spray, camera, and proper footwear.
yuuago: (Norway - Hush)
When I stepped out this evening I realized I had mail. A surprise. Hadn't had anything in my mailbox for days, but there it was, a little package from Minni. Ahhh, salmiakki, just the treat I was needing. Haa, my parents tease me for liking it - they think it's awful stuff - but it's just an, er, acquired taste, I guess. In any case, finding that package, man, it did me good. I'm so lucky to know her.

I've been kind of down in the dumps these past few days, and that combined with not having much going on has resulted in me not having anything to write about. After receiving the package I went out and took a good long walk down by the river. I think it did me some good, but who's to know, really.

I took my camera with me when I went out, but I neglected to wear proper shoes, so I wasn't able to get down under the bridge to take any graffiti pictures, alas. I did manage to make my way in enough to get one photo, though.

Empower each other )

Maybe next time I'll wear proper shoes so I can scramble around the river rocks taking pictures. We'll see.

Other than that, nothing going on... I've been doing some reading. Just finished up another volume of Black Jack; going to take a break from that and read some Pratchett for a while instead. So, I'm working my way through Wee Free Men now. Been slowly updating the Nordex (parts 10-12 covered, currently working on 9). Haven't been writing at all - I've been trying, but lately it's been absolutely no go. I sit down, I get my pen, I open up my notebook, and... not even a damn sentence. Geeze. I've been like this for a while, and it's just so frustrating. Mentioned to a friend, maybe I should try writing something entirely different from what I usually would. Not sure, but... maybe I will.
yuuago: (Moomin - Snufkin again)
Well, my body is still trolling me, but I'm starting to get used to it, I think. In any case, while the weekend was up and down and up and down, the first day of spring was pretty okay. I went out for a long walk on that day, headed down by the river. Things are starting to melt pretty nicely, though there's still a bit of mud in the brush, and it's still awfully muddy all over the place. But, when things start to clean up, it'll look mighty nice. At any rate, it's better than what went on back home - Fort McMurray got a few inches of snow on that day, according to my dad. Compared to that, Saskatoon sounds pretty nice, muddy or not.

Took some photos while I was out. )

And some older ones too, from October )

I really should go around to more different areas to take pictures. The thing is, though, I tend to feel a little silly when I do it. Saskatoon isn't exactly a tourist destination, to put it mildly, so someone going around with a camera is a little bit weird - especially if they're doing it in a residential area.

Urgh, I really should be in bed now, because I have an appointment in the morning. I'm not sleepy at all, though. Just my luck.
yuuago: (Ghost)
So. When I woke up this morning, it was snowing outside. Big fluffy flakes, and there was quite a bit of it on the ground. I wanted to get photos, but by the time I was fully awake and had breakfast and stuff, much of it had melted, so I just said "fuck it". Maybe next time.

Today was pretty okay. As far as days go, it isn't the best one that I've had, but it wasn't bad. I did end up going to the party, which was pretty all right, but unremarkable as far as parties go. I left at about 9:30 because I was walking home - and also because I wanted to be sure to leave before everyone'd had too much to drink. All in all, I'm not too sure how I feel about it, but it was nice to get out of the house.

I had a lot of fun doing my makeup. Nowadays I'm usually too lazy to dress goth in general, let alone the full face makeup, so it was great to do it. Also, this was my first opportunity to use my makeup brushes, and oh my god. I think I'm in love. Before, I had to use q-tips or my fingers. NEVER AGAIN. I'm serious. Anyway, because I was too lazy to put together a proper costume, I threw on my goth clothes, did makeup, and went as Gentleman Death.

Unfortunately, only one of the photos I took turned out (the other ones were all blurred, hurr) but at least you can see how I did my face up. Because of the bad lighting and the fact that I'm not good at taking photos, it's hard to see the subtleties with the shading and so on.
Snip snip )
That's all just regular makeup; I was too lazy (and too cheap) to buy face paint - and that stuff tends to be greasy as hell anyway. Regular stuff is just pressed powder so it feels okay and doesn't do weird things to my skin. I must say, I have no idea how I put up with black lipstick in high school. I didn't know how to put it on properly back then, so when I wore it, it was always wearing off and I had to touch it up every half hour or so, geeze. Not the case nowadays.

Anyway. It's now past 12. That means it's November 1st. New month. It's time to pick up and start being awesome again.

(Ff. I accidentally put the 'current music' in the 'tag' slot instead of its proper place. Maybe this is a sign that I should go to bed early tonight.)
yuuago: (Finland - Snow)

Took this last night. We have snow. I am not impressed. :| TOO FUCKING EARLY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, NATURE? Anyway.

PSA: Going away for a few days. Gasp, whatever will y'all do without my daily tl;dr?

I'll be leaving in a couple of hours to go to my relatives' house for Thanksgiving. I'll be gone until Sunday evening, and I won't be taking my laptop with me. Might have access while I'm there, but not much. So, the best way to contact me will be through LJ and through PM.

I have nothing else to say except that I did not get enough sleep and I foresee that I shall be very cranky in the near future. :|

Oh yes, and the issue I was having with a friend has been completely cleared up. Everything's fine now. I can stop losing sleep over it. <3

[edit 12:30 AM] safe and sound in Alberta. Get good reception with itouch but writing on it is a pain. Catching up on Flist and the meme. You guys write too much ;p
yuuago: (Canada - Hetalia)
I've been meaning to put this up for a while, but just hadn't gotten around to it. I think I took these photos last month. Part of it is in the neighbourhood area, and the rest was taken under the Broadway Bridge by the river.

I love Saskatoon <3 )
yuuago: (Canada - Sightless)
Good gods. Took me long enough, eh? Well! This will (finally) be about my trip to Waterton Lakes. You know, that one with my parents, month or two back. Heh. Anyway! This entry will be quite photo-heavy. I took a ton of photos (even had to delete the Fort McMurray photos from my camera to make room), and while only maybe a small amount of them turned out, that "small amount" is still a lot. Okay, moving on!

The photos, and the trip )
yuuago: (Canada - Sightless)
Righto. So, I said I'd take some pictures. This time, I ACTUALLY DID IT. Mostly because I wanted to make my darling Tik happy. ♥ Yes.

Most people think Saskatchewan looks like this:

... And it pretty much does. But Saskatoon doesn't!

The city of Saskatoon would like you to think it looks like this:

The reality is... a little bit different. Neither quite as boring, as a big wheat field, nor quite as exciting as the above photo would like you to believe. Allow me to show you, my loves. :|

So. Here we go.

VERY PIC HEAVY. You have been warned. )
yuuago: (Default)
The bleaching process was done in two stages. The photos I have are only from the first stage.

The process. And pictures! )

After the bleaching, I treated UUA for tail rust. Since I don't have a lot of photos of that, I'm not going to make a separate entry for it.

Tail rust treatment and photos )

She's ALMOST THERE. I just need to do a few more things~
