Can you feel it? To the beat y'all

Things have been an enormous clusterfuck lately. Crazy weather. Thunderstorms everywhere! I have no idea what's going on. My own life hasn't been making much sense either.
On a brighter note, I finally started reading the Kalevala. It had been collecting dust on my bookshelf for six months, but I was talking with Bice about it lately, and it turns out we both have the same translation/edition. So, we're going to kind of... read it together, I guess! Should be fun. At the very least, it'll be getting me reading something that requires more brain power to comprehend than Black Jack and Stephen King novels. Not that there's anything wrong with that stuff, but er, I should probably read somethin' else for a while.
So, I started it tonight. I'm only two cantos in, but I really like it so far. This translation is nice, not heavy or thick; it's good for leisure-reading.
Aside from thatttt nothing of note, except that I did get out to take some graffiti photos the other day! Unfortunately, while I did remember bug spray, I forgot to wear proper shoes, so I wasn't able to get any of the river-rocks. However, there was enough in other locations, so there we go. I actually did neglect to get photos of some - I'll have to go back later.

This guy appeared on an electricbox in my alley just a couple weeks ago. Just popped up overnight. A neat little surprise when I was taking out the garbage.

And a close-up of him.

Sticker graffiti on the back of a dumpster near my apartment. I've been seeing these stickers all over the place, and I'm not sure what that's all about.

Aaand a close-up.

"Eat the rich for breakfast". Scrawled on an electric box along my walk-rout. It's right across the street from the line of mansions that look out over the river.

Portrait of Louis Riel, captioned "Keepin it Riel". This one is new as well, but I can't quite pinpoint when it showed up.

And Riel again. 8)

Under the Broadway Bridge... Even though spray-stuff isn't as clean-looking as stencil or wheatpaper, I still really like it (when it's, you know, actual illustrations rather than just tags or penis drawings). It feels kind of nostalgic.

This one (both the large one and the smaller) have been around since mid-spring, I think, but I hadn't had a chance to get down there until now. I... I have absolutely no idea what that thing is supposed to be. Any ideas?

Those damn stickers again, this time on a street lamp.

More stickers, on a newspaper box. I see a lot of these posted individually, freaking everywhere.

I've probably shown this one before, but this is a new photograph of it. It's sprayed on the back of a bookstore near my house. Unlike pretty much all the other graffiti that I show, this one might have been done by the people who own the building.
Aaaand that's it for now - until I remember to go out again, this time with bug spray, camera, and proper footwear.

Date: 2010-06-30 08:54 am (UTC)Those door stickers are actually really interesting. I love it when people do things like that. Sticking/drawing similar things like that all over the place. It's fun to run around trying to find as many as you can. *3* They picked some really interesting doors, too. As for that, err... thing. A guy(??) trying to eat a fish while his second (bird) head stares in disapproval? :Ta Yeah, I'm as lost as you are, bro.
Oh yeah, speaking of graffiti. You've probably already heard of it, but my Danefag brother told be about Christiania recently. The whole place is loaded with really beautiful stuff, might be fun to look into it if you're interested. I'm quite fond of their garbage truck (http://www.madphotoworld.com/2008/02/19/Christiania-Garbage-Truck.jpg) myself. *3*

Date: 2010-06-30 07:30 pm (UTC)It's only recently that I've noticed the doors - usually the stickers I see around are photographs of people, and not all together like that. Weird.
And as for the mysterious.... thing... your guess is as good as mine. o3o

Date: 2010-06-30 08:48 pm (UTC)Hmm, you gonna try and figure out what they mean or do you think someone just thought it'd be fun to stick pretty doors all over the place? Man, I'm jealous, we never get anything like that around here. Fffff, I like the 'duck with vagina dentata' theory for the thing.

Date: 2010-06-30 10:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm going to try to figure out what they mean. There's got to be some point - why would someone just decide to stick doors all over? There's got to be a message of some kind.

Date: 2010-06-30 09:09 am (UTC)and i couldn't help but notice all the green in the pictures ahh so pretty ;; the stickers are also quite intriguing, even if they're a little creepy after staring at em for a while! it would be interesting if they were different nationality doors but i don't think they are.. as for red sprayed one i thought it was a pigeon/toothed sea creature cross haha but after staring at it for a solid 5 minutes WHO KNOWS

Date: 2010-06-30 07:32 pm (UTC)Yes! It's so green and bright here - all the rain we've been getting has been making things look really nice. And a lot of the flowers are starting to come up too, ahh it looks great. <3
I keep staring at the mysterious sprayed monster and I still don't get it. It will be a mystery forever.

Date: 2010-06-30 12:28 pm (UTC)Eat the rich made me laugh and wonder if anarchists have been to a nutritionist lately: the rich are full of cholesterol, from... you know, all the rich food they eat, taken from the proletariat by the filthy bourgouis and all. It'll just get them SICK, I tell you.
I'd like to know what those stickers are about, too.

Date: 2010-06-30 07:35 pm (UTC)The stickers are a mystery and I intend to figure it out. Somehow. Some day~

Date: 2010-06-30 10:58 pm (UTC)then I reminded myself about the huge unread stack of books I already own ;_;
oh man oh man it drives me crazy, seeing the same graffiti over and over again in different places. It makes me feel as if I'm missing out on something, because I can't bring myself to believe that it's just the trademark of the person doing them h-haha what if there's ~a message~
this sucker (http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f243/yuuago/graffiti/june2010/bridge2.jpg) is a beauty, despite it probably being the product of someone who was high outta their minds. It's like, a bird/shark/that new grass pokemon all in one. though every person you ask will probably say something different

Date: 2010-07-01 12:04 am (UTC)... and you'd probably have to go online to get the Kalevala anyway :T Had to go through Amazon myself, derp
YEAH. IT'S WEIRD when they do the same thing in a bunch of different places. WHAT DOES IT MEANNNNNN if it means anything.
