I received two wonderful fanarts in Chocolate Box exchange!

+ Promare: A very fun and sexy Lio/Galo comic

+ Hetalia: A sweet and fluffy Denmark/Norway illustration - with dancing

And my recipient enjoyed the fic I wrote, so all is well. :D

The collection is so big this year! Over 1000 works in over 480 fandoms... It'll take me a while to look through everything I'm familiar with. Well, the art won't take long - but the fic, yes. Will have to wait until my brain is less mush for that. ;V
yuuago: (Cookie monster - Thinking)
I was going to post something more interesting, but my brain is mush, so uhhh....

+ FTH signups are closed now. Turns out they've had a record number of signups this year! I'm glad that I decided to stick to my decision to sit it out re: throwing my hat into it, but damn, am I ever looking forward to browsing the offers.

+ [community profile] kinkluckydip will be running again this year. Schedule here; noms and signups open next week. I had a good time with this last year, and I'm thinking about signing up again. I love the premise of "I want some porn with this pairing, and I'm open to almost anything, surprise me!" Anybody else thinking of doing KLD this year?

+ ...However ahhhh I just remembered that I have something for Crack the WIP due in April. Maybe I should work on it over the next two weeks and make sure my ducks are in a row before I consider signing up for something else! (50/50 chance on whether this will actually happen. ;p )

[community profile] goreswap: a new multifandom gore-themed exchange. It's currently in the nom stages. Schedule and info over here.

Totally unsurprised to see some Locked Tomb and Magnus Archives noms already, haa. Some fandoms lend themselves really well to this specific subject.

I like that matching will be determined by rating, either T or E. The clear line will make it easy to differentiate between people who want a little violence as a treat and those who are like "yes, seriously, please turn the guts up to eleven".

This is one I won't be signing up for, but I'm definitely going to be interested in seeing what the requests are like, and whatever works come out of this.
yuuago: (Romania - Smug)
Signups are open for [community profile] crackthewip!

This is a multifandom challenge to finish WIPs/in-progress works. Due date is April 1-7.

Man, I really enjoy fests like this. Writing for myself, and with the extra incentive of a deadline? Nice. And unlike IIBB, this one doesn't have a minimum wordcount, so I can post one of my short works for it.

I have a short TMA fic that I want to post for this. Hoping to complete some other things too, but... let's just commit to one fic at a time, shall we? ;p

+ Chocolate Box assignments are out! I'm happy with mine. Going to need to do a little thinking, a little brainstorming, maybe some canon review, but I'm definitely pleased with this one and looking forward to writing something for this person. Yay!

+ New flash exchange for minor characters from The Magnus Archives: [community profile] tmaminorcharaex. Came up on my DW flist and I was like "Oh!!!" I don't know if I'm going to be able to fit it into my schedule, though. Minimum 300 words with a week to write, well - there are some fandoms where I could manage that, but I'm not sure about this one! Still, I love the idea, and I'm going to keep my eye on it.

+ Multifandom Doodle Exchange ([community profile] multifandomdoodle) is going to be running twice this year. Schedule is up for round 1*. I really like the idea behind this exchange; it's a low-pressure multifandom fanart exchange for all skill levels. I didn't participate in the 2021 round because the kerfuffle with allowing userage users turned me off, but since new rounds are restricted to adults only, I'm considering participating. I used to enjoy drawing a lot - I was never good at it, but I had fun. And browsing through the 2021 collection was great - there's such a wide variety of stuff there*. So, well - going to give it some thought, at least.

Dear Chocolatier -

I've jotted down a few ideas to help you get started. If you have ideas of your own that aren't on here, I'd love to see them. My tastes are pretty broad, so I'll genuinely be happy with anything that doesn't hit the do not wants. All ratings are welcome; I love both G and R-18 works, and the entire range in between.

For some canons, I only had ideas for one medium, so I limited my requests to that medium. Works in a different medium are welcome if you have inspiration for that!

For reference, my Ao3 username is yuuago.

+ Man, I am so ready for this month to be over. The beginning of a new year always brings such good feelings for me - I love starting a new calendar, doing up a new list of resolutions, starting a new reading list... It feels good. Yes, yes, January is miserable, but feeling fired up about new goals is great. xD

+ Noms are open for Chocolate Box! Info. I promptly forgot everything I have ever enjoyed, so I have no idea what to nom right now, but I'm excited! Looking forward to seeing what people put in the tagset.

+ Had my brother over for supper the other day. Apparently I am capable of cooking something edible, yay. (I'm still very iffy about my skills, but it turned out really good.) Made that Moroccan stew that I recced a while back*. It was nice to talk with him one-on-one - we rarely do any of that; usually his SO or the parents are around, so this was very different. Later this week, I'll be going to his place for coffee; have plans to make cranberry nut bread for later that, which always turns out well.

Possibly of interest to some of you:

[community profile] rarefemslashexchange is a new exchange currently in the nomination stages. The focus is on F/F ships with fewer than 250 works on Ao3 (with filters).

I won't be joining this one, but I really like the premise. Definitely going to be keeping an eye out for treating.

Potentially useful: A guide for requesting art in exchanges by [personal profile] chacusha.

It's a pretty thorough run-down of what kind of information is helpful in art requests. Details that are useful for a fic writer aren't necessarily something that an artist can use.

Of course, since it's just one artist's thoughts on the thing, it's a 'your mileage may vary' post, but most of the things on this list are suggestions I've seen in other discussions.

I don't do fanart, but I enjoy it a lot, so I do request it most of the time in applicable exchanges. Usually I don't have much difficulty figuring out what to request, but it'll be helpful to have a list of things to keep in mind so I can up my chances of receiving an art gift. ;V

+ Had Thanksgiving supper yesterday. Did not murder anyone. Everyone liked the fancy green beans that I cooked. Got very drunk because apparently my alcohol tolerance has gone way down since I moved out and don't usually have wine with supper any more. Mom sent me home with a ton of leftover turkey that I'm going to use to make a totally boss curry. Not bad!

+ Spent about an hour this weekend with gloves and a garbage bag, picking up trash in the park. Hooray, there is a noticeable improvement! (But fuck all those assholes who just throw their litter everywhere.)

+ Finished the draft for my second FTH fic! Hooray! ...Now I have to type the damn thing up. Eew. But we're clipping along according to schedule, so I'm pretty pleased. It's going to take some work to get it to turn out the way I want, but I think it'll be all right! It's Hetalia SE/DE, which I haven't written at length before, but there's some interesting possibilities with that pairing, I will admit. (TBH usually I prefer it as like, very late 19th century SE/DE/NO, but that did not fit the request.)

+ Had a conversation about Hetalia with Tik today, and we realized that it's been published as Hetalia World Stars since 2014. Both of us boggled - we thought it had been... not as long as that. How does time pass so fast? How is it 2021? How have I been in this fandom for 12 years, still actively writing fic for it? It is a mystery.

+ I went for an hour-long walk twice today, and I feel GREAT. I really wish I could do this every day.

+ The Yuletide 2021 tagset is up. I wasn't planning to participate in this exchange, but not going to lie, looking through the options make it rather tempting, because a lot of fandoms that I like were added to it - and I didn't even add any myself! Poldark AND Anno 1790 are both in the tagset, and while I've never written either, the latter is a quick canon review and I've certainly seen enough of the former to give it a go... Ah, well, I'll resist the signup temptation and just wait to see what the requests are like. ;) Do any of you see anything that excites you? Any feelings about Worldbuilding being added as a requestable option?

I wanted to sign up for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles, but real life has been stressful lately, and I have some pending commitments, so I decided to delete my signup.

But the below is what I would have requested if I'd signed up. Maybe next time? Fandoms were Promare, Hetalia, Magnus Archives, and The Witch Door.

yuuago: (Norway - Tea)
[community profile] seasonsofdrabbles is a new drabble exchange. Noms open August 22; signups open August 29.

Apparently if it's successful, it'll take place quarterly.

Sounds fun! I'm not sure if I'll be able to participate in the first round, but I'm definitely going to give it some thought.

Maybe I'll wait and see if any of the signups have something I can write before I make a decision. Ahh, the curse of having very specific tastes - even The Magnus Archives can't save me most of the time. ;p

+ Aaaand the hot weather continues. BRB, melting.

+ I signed up for [community profile] iddyiddybangbang. Are any of you planning to participate? I really love this event. Yeah, sure, I could write my deepest desires for my own gratification any time, but it's nice to have a due date. And the mod is so friendly and enthusiastic, which I find very encouraging. This isn't a "bang" in the sense of huge word minimum and being paired up with an artist - honestly, I wouldn't want to do that kind of thing - but the 5k minimum is perfect for me.

+ Finished the draft for one of my FTH fics. One down, one to go! It's some lighthearted FR/UK, which is a pairing I've never written before, so it was an interesting challenge. I have no idea of the story is any good, mind you, but uhhh I'll worry about that later. After I type it up. (Man, I hate the typing-up stage almost as much as I hate editing.)

+ Received a blender/food processer combo for my birthday (yesterday). I am going to make ALL the delicious blended soups! ...As soon as the weather cools down enough that the ambient heat doesn't fill me with disgust at the entire concept of food. That said, I made a smoothie for lunch out of random fruit I had in the fridge, and it was amazing. I am never going to Booster Juice ever again.
yuuago: (TMA - Michael - Bright)
Fics for the Multifandom Drabble Exchange have been revealed! Yay! The collection for this round has over 330 fandoms, wow.

I wrote two works:

Borrowing a Door for Fencesit. The Witch Door, Katariina/Tzofiya, 400 words, G/0+. Snapshots in the course of a relationship.

Happenstance for laughs_in_distortion. The Magnus Archives, Gerry Keay & Michael Distortion, 100 words, G/0+. Gerry has a chance encounter after acquiring a Leitner through dubious means.

And I received two Magnus Archives works! Voila:

Wasteland Waiting by LookingForDroids. Adelard Dekker, 100 words, G/0+. A fragmentary audio recording, found among the personal effects of one Gertrude Robinson.

My heart is thrilled by the still of your hand (It's how I know now that you understand) by laughs_in_distortion. Sasha James/Michael Distortion, 200 words, T. Sasha thinks of her encounter with Michael.

There were a lot of TMA fics in the collection for this round, and I enjoyed all of them (except the one that I didn't read due to spoilers).

Of the fics that weren't written for me, my favourite was:

Memento Mori by LookingForDroids. Original statement giver, 300 words, G/0+. Statement of Sarah Chandler, regarding an archaeological text.

Multifandom Drabble ([community profile] multifandomdrabble) doesn't use exchange letters, but I like to copy my info over here to have it on hand for reference.

The exchange is going to do two rounds this year; these requests are for the first round.

I'm requesting The Magnus Archives, The Witch Door, and Hetalia.

This weekend, I just kind of went nope. Get any of my creative projects done? NOPE. Do anything that requires brain power? NOPE. Did get the cleaning done though, so there is that. I think maybe my body was just protesting after I had to drag myself out of bed at 6 AM on Saturday to go to work. And there was more snow today! Which of course didn't help.

Signups are open for [community profile] multifandomdrabble! (Details). From now until May 01. Already got my signup in! And I might add another fandom or two, though I haven't decided what. (VME? Promare? Something totally random, like Fortitude? Who knows!)

And I made a cake! With rosewater (and I added some cardamom too). This 'Syrian coffee loaf' recipe that was recently posted at [community profile] cookbook_challenge. It turned out all right; don't know if I'll make this one again, but I do think I'll experiment more with rosewater desserts. It's such a delicate and elegant flavouring, and not one that I've played with much.
yuuago: (NorRo - Snow)
☆ It was snowing this morning. I was not impressed.

☆ Mom came over yesterday and helped me put up my blackout curtains. Hooray! This is the first time I've actually had blackout curtains in my bedroom (despite living up here almost my entire life) and I'm pretty stoked. Now I'll be able to get through the summer without the sun waking me up at 3AM.

☆ Noms are open for [community profile] multifandomdrabble. Details and schedule/rules. I tossed some in, so it looks like I might end up signing up. Probably going to ask for Hetalia, The Witch Door, and TMA, though I don't know about anything else.
yuuago: (Romania - Smug)
The [community profile] kinkluckydip exchange was a good one for me. Loved the parameters/concept; the bite-sized minimum wordcount and the freedom to write whatever I want as long as it was kinky in some way really worked for me. The only issue that I ran into is that it takes place at the start of the busiest part of the year at my work, but I managed to get everything in on time, so that turned out fine in the end.

Works were revealed over the weekend. 87 fandoms and over 150 works at this time. Yay!

Author reveals aren't for a while, so I can't link to what I wrote. But as for what I received - I made out like a bandit when it came to gifts, holy shit.

+ Art: Frosty Treat. Frozen, Elsa/Honeymaren, oral + clothes on, plus a cute little extra at the end that made me crack up. ;D

+ Art: Impromptu Hairplay. Hetalia, Romania/Norway, bondage and blindfolds and erogenous haircurl teasing... Somebody ("somebody") knows me very, very well. ;)

+ Fic: The Devil You Know (archive-locked). The Magnus Archives, Michael Distortion/Jon Sims, 2.3k, canon divergence from MAG 101 in which the door isn't locked, and Michael decides to... keep Jon around. ;) The author tagged for Spiral-typical mindfuckery and boy is it ever.

10/10, would participate again! If this one runs next year, I'll likely sign up, why the hell not.
yuuago: (NorIce - Heart)
You know, I... don't think I want to run Nordipalooza this year after all.

Every time I think about it, all my energy drains right out. Which is silly, since strictly speaking, it isn't a high-maintenance event. It isn't even an exchange! But I don't want to write up the prompt list, I don't want to polish up the rules, I don't even want to solidify this year's schedule. I don't, I don't, I don't.

So. That's that, then.

Maybe I'll run it later in the year - there were certain years where it ran in summer instead - but right now I don't want to think about it at all.

I feel kind of bad, but... if I don't want to, then I don't want to, and it's best not to stretch myself too much, considering how busy I'm going to be soon, and how much overtime I'm going to be doing.

Whatever possessed me to run an event during the busiest time of the work year?! It's not like I didn't know when Shutdown is! Past me has a lot to answer for.
yuuago: (Norway - Blush)
[community profile] kinkluckydip doesn't do letters, so I decided to copy my requests over here to have them on-hand as reference.
Due to the nature of KLD, in which the writer is free to write whichever kink they desire, prompts are to be taken as suggestions.
