Candy Hearts Exchange is complete. Creators revealed today!

I'm still going through the collection; there are a whole lot of works that look interesting to me (with over 900 written for this, I would hope so!). So far I did take a look at some of the art, and a lot of it is great!

Anyway, I received:

Sunset to Dusk by Beleghir. Promare, Lio/Gueira/Meis, 18+, 2.1k.
Author's summary: Lio, Meis and Gueira no longer have the Promare holding them together, but they're building new ways of staying close.

This was some lovely postcanon domestic coziness, and exactly the kind of thing I love for these guys. <3 Worth a read if you like this ot3.

As for me, I wrote:

Turning inward, no last thoughts for Razzaroo. Hetalia, Denmark/Netherlands, 18+, ~850 words. Established relationship, set some time during the 1600s.
No plot here; just a night together.

It's been a while since I wrote some DK/NL, so I'm really glad there was a request for it. <3

I received two wonderful fanarts in Chocolate Box exchange!

+ Promare: A very fun and sexy Lio/Galo comic

+ Hetalia: A sweet and fluffy Denmark/Norway illustration - with dancing

And my recipient enjoyed the fic I wrote, so all is well. :D

The collection is so big this year! Over 1000 works in over 480 fandoms... It'll take me a while to look through everything I'm familiar with. Well, the art won't take long - but the fic, yes. Will have to wait until my brain is less mush for that. ;V

Maaan, I want to rewatch Promare. And... write Promare fic....

There's this one idea I have for a Lio/Galo thing in the very early postcanon days. Lio is staying with Galo, things are a little awkward, but they're... settling. And getting to know each other. And it's kind of awkward, but kind of good, and there's a sense of stability there that both of them need at that moment.

I know a lot of people jump right to having them be in a relationship, but I just can't, man. I need them to take some time to be friends first, let the dust settle, figure a few things out.

...Unless it's played up as "they're both young guys who went through a traumatic experience, they're both impulsive in different ways, this could be a spectacularly bad decision but boy howdy are they going to jump face-first into it". But, I don't know, I haven't seen that kind of thing much.

Admittedly, I haven't read all that wildly. Maybe I'll go poke around in my free time. (WHAT free time?!)

Aha, the Promare wip I was following is finished! Now, time to rec it. :D

Light Up The Sky by Oripoke. 81k, M, Lio/Galo + ensemble, postcanon.

Summary: A year after the second Great World Blaze, Galo is bored and Lio is nowhere to be found. When Lucia unveils her latest invention, it sends Galo far beyond Promepolis on a search for his wayward copilot. Meanwhile, Lio has bigger things to worry about, out on the fringes of society with all that remains of Mad Burnish. While the two track down missing Burnish and grapple with their feelings for each other, a ghost from Lio's past threatens to disturb the fragile peace they fought so hard to create...

Thoughts: This fic does a great job of keeping up the general feel of canon; by that I mean mechs and fire and stuff blowing up. Like, if there were a second film, a lot of the plot-related stuff in here would be things that I can see happening. Ori takes what we get with the worldbuilding and explores it a bit; there's a lot that the film doesn't show us, so it was cool to see someone play with that.

Also, Ori has a great voice for Galo. Some people dial him down too much, but in this fic, he's just right. And the friends-to-lovers relationship between Lio and Galo that plays out here is really nice.

Sooo, yes. Take a look at this one if you're familiar with the canon and are in the mood to sink your teeth into something nice and long! :D

Galo is kind of a nerd (in his own particular way) and I think that's adorable.

Without you is how I disappear by henriqua. Lio/Gueira/Meis, rated T, 6.2k. Post-canon, with some hurt/comfort, and understated pining that ends with the beginning of a relationship.

This was sweet. The way the author wrote the dynamic between the Mad Burnish trio was very comfortable and cozy. It's exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to find for them.

There's a little bit with Lio trying (and somewhat failing) to deal with the mundane details of everyday life, and I really like it when people address that. He might have been the boss, but postcanon circumstances introduced a whole lot of changes into his life, and I can't imagine that he'd be able to deal with all of them without some difficulty.

It looks like this fic is the beginning of a series, so hopefully the author plans to explore this ot3 further. I'm really looking forward to that, if so.

Sparks Dance Under Your Fingertips by TaurusVersant. Heris/Lucia, G-rated, 8.3k. Post-canon, guilt & recovery, and the beginning of a relationship.

The shipping in this is low-key and understated; it's at the beginning stages and more of a hint that whatever Lucia and Heris have built up might lead to more.

I like this writer's voice for Heris, and I like the way this story digs into her feelings about everything that happened in canon, and her part in it.

Lucia and Heris have different approaches to science, so even though they have that as a shared interest, it doesn't mean they'd go well together. But the way it plays out in this story convinces me - their differences complement each other.

This isn't a fandom that I would've expected to read femslash for, BUT, I guess I ship this now. ;p

Man, I really should just get off my ass and write this Gueira/Lio/Meis fic that I've had kicking around in my head for a week. Apparently my soul craves a Mad Burnish sandwich.

I don't really feel confident in my characterization, but when has that ever stopped me?!

This particular idea doesn't have a lot of plot; it's mostly atmosphere and coziness and a little bit of steamy nonsense. This just seems like it'd be a really good ot3 for cuddly sex. Well, in the few moments they get when they aren't in danger. I just need to... get started....

Gonna' just CONVENIENTLY IGNORE all my other wips. Yes. Sounds good.

[Edit]

There are 34 fics with this ot3 on Ao3*, and I am gonna' read all of them. (Or at least I'm going to try.)

...Oh wait, half of them are in Russian. (AGAIN) [/facepalm] Okay, there are 17 in English, I guess I'll read those....

☆ The Fort Mac library and rec centre have closed until further notice because of the current COVID-19 issue. What am I going to do now, make my way through my to-read pile? Perish the thought.

We do not have any cases in the city at this time. I'm trying not to worry about things, and just maintaining an optimistic attitude while continuing to practice hygiene (apparently my base-line level of this is higher than the average person) because anxiety in this kind of situation will just make everything worse. ...It's not going quite as well as I'd like, but I am making an attempt.

☆ The Promare cosplay earrings that I ordered finally arrived. Now I can be as stylish as Lio Fotia, haha. <3 I was worried that they'd be a bit too costumey, but they aren't at all. And they're pretty sturdy, which is nice.

A little flashy for the office, but for weekend wear, they're perfect - and nobody will know that they're cosplay earrings unless they're also a fan. I feel like the world's biggest nerd, but I'm very happy. (They're by Clinkorz on Etsy if anyone is curious.)

The Vienna State Opera has cancelled its performances due to current events, but it's going to make select recordings of older performances available for free on its streaming platform, on a specific schedule. I think that's neat.

Think you need an account in order to watch it; not sure - perhaps I'll look into it, because I see the schedule includes the ballet of Peer Gynt, which of course I'm very interested in.

☆ There is a "Happy & Distracting Comment Fest" going on over here, if any of you need a pleasant diversion: https://sholio.dreamwidth.org/1317420.html

Leave a fic prompt, fill someone else's, have fun. I don't have any ideas right now, but I might see if I can fill something over there. :)

☆ I hope you all will have as stress-free a weekend as possible.

I'm slowly going through the Promare fics for various recent exchanges. The fandom is so large that just opening the main section for it on Ao3 and trying to decide to read seems kind of intimidating. It's easier this way.

I really enjoyed this one, which was posted for Yuletide:

Wear Sunscreen by Winterhill. 6.1k, Lio/Galo, rated M.

Cute friends-to-lovers postcanon fic with Galo teaching Lio to swim, and the two of them figuring out what they are to each other, with rebuilding going on in the background. I thought it was really sweet.

☆ FTH and the Fandom For Australia auctions are both complete. Whoo! I can hardly wait for the people I'm writing for to get back to me... I'm so excited to start working on things for them, but I need to know what they want first. :D

☆ I'm really curious about what the final donation amounts will be for both FFOz and FTH. I was outbid on several of my FTH bids, so in a way I'm kind of glad that FFOz was running at the same time, because I was able to pick up a few there instead (beta readings - I wanted to make sure I'd have someone to help me proofread the stories I'm writing for my winners!). I really hope that FTH will raise over $27,000 this year - that would bring its four-year total up to $100K, and that would be just amazing. Guess we'll have to see!

☆ Promare is continuing to devour my brain. I JUST... CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. When I have the time, I'm going to have to binge Ao3 for stuff with worldbuilding focus. And postcanon stuff too. And Lio/Galo, of course, of course. (Anybody got any recs?)

☆ I seriously wonder how many people hit up Etsy and bought black triangle earrings after watching that movie. I might have done so myself. Couldn't help it, Lio is just so stylish - ...I also might also have taken to wearing bonfire-scented cologne lately. Some kind of wannabe Mad Burnish over here. NERD FACTOR TURNED UP TO ELEVEN. It's terrible. Ah, well, this might be a flavour of the month, but it could be far worse. ;)

☆ What is the reading equivalent of having eyes bigger than one's stomach? Whatever it is, I currently am that. Took home quite a stack from the library today. Now I have to read all of these books. Oh no... How terrible... whatever am I going to do? ;) ;)

☆ I wish the wind would quit it already. Today would have been pretty mild if not for the wind bringing things down to -18C. Screw you, wind! Get out of here.

☆ Going to slap some to-do down here. Just the fun things.

My beloved Tik has been into Promare lately. I'd heard about this movie from other people, various saying that it was really good, but hadn't felt the need to check it out myself. But after seeing all the pretty fanart that Tik's been reblogging onto my tumblr dash, I decided to finally give it a go. Our tastes don't always align perfectly, but sometimes we fit just right.

My verdict:

I was delighted!

This film is a little ridiculous. Well, okay, it's very ridiculous. But it's good fun!

The general premise: Pyrokinetics vs firefighters. One side burns to live, the other side lives to put them out. But it turns out, it's a lot more complicated than that....

I won't say more, because I feel like this is the kind of film where it's better to go in knowing very little detail. But I'm always a sucker for psychic powers. (Though that's not quite what's going on here, but close enough.)

Also, there are giant robots punching other giant robots. :D

The two main characters are fun. Sunshine/raincloud dynamic, and very shippy. Though I'll admit to being a little bit biased, because they remind me a bit of my OTP. Also: if you liked drift compatibility in Pacific Rim... let's just say that these two would be drift compatible.

One thing I'd like to make clear - there isn't any actual M/M in this film. Certain moments are shippy as hell, but no. Just wanted to put that out there, because I had kind of osmosed that there might be, but there wasn't. I wouldn't want anyone to go into it with that expectation only to be disappointed.

Anyway.

Promare is a feast for the eyes, and the music is great. If you want a movie where you can sit back and enjoy the pretty visuals and a nice soundtrack, this one is a good candidate. Though I will say that you need to be in the mood for something that's bright and goofy in a very anime sort of way - there's a lot of that in this.

It was a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. :)
