[personal profile] allekha posted a super-detailed Yuri on Ice timeline over here. It follows the characters year-by-year through their whole career, with lots of background details. Known info about the secondary and tertiary characters is included.

It's been a while since I've written anything for this canon, but I still have some ideas kicking around, so it's possible I'll end up referring to this timeline in the future, haaa.

Man, speaking of - I really should rewatch YOI. It's such a fun show. And it's getting to be the perfect time of year for it.

I received some adorable YOI Leo/Guanghong pair skate fanart in [community profile] raremaleslashex. Take a look here. <3 <3 I'm so happy, this really made my day. :D [Edit] This lovely art was drawn by Rebecca. Thank you!!

There are lots of good things in the collection, and I'll hopefully make a rec post once I've looked at a few more works. Might take a while to go through it though - there are 158 fandoms and 220 works this year.

Just a bit of linkdumping on this lovely morning~

✿ I recently stumbled over [community profile] 100words, a weekly prompt comm for drabbles (the strictly 100-word kind). Haven't written any yet, but I probably will soon - this week's theme is impending doom, which is perfect for some of my fandoms. :D Perhaps some of you might join me?

[community profile] poetry is a comm for sharing published poetry. (Not your own work - there are other comms for that). I didn't know this one existed until a couple of days ago. Maybe some of you have some things you'd like to throw on my reading feed? I'll try to think of some to do the same. ;)

✿ Nom stage is continuing for [community profile] rareshipsonice (AKA the Yuri on Ice rarepair exchange). Tagset is over here. It's a pretty huge tagset so far, but if you've been thinking about this exchange, might want to check to see if your favourite pairs are in there, and add them if they aren't. (I'm probably going to sign up... or maybe just do treats... hmm.)

✿ Kickstarter promo: Odie is a comic book inspired by Homer's Odyssey, told from the point of view of a corgi trying to get home. :D I'm not familiar with Aaron Sullivan's writing, but the art is by Elli Puukangas and Karoliina Hankonen, who I've recently become a fan of because of their webcomics (Tistow/Small Trolls/Year in Hereafter), so I'm excited about it. There are only a few days left on this one, but it's already fully-funded, so the project is guaranteed to happen.

Aaaand that's it! (And now to stop procrastinating and... get ready for work. Sigh.)

☆ Oil plant maintenance season is upon us, and that means overtime. Please expect an exhausted Yuu in your future. Drives me nuts that this will cut into my writing time, but on the upside, more cash is always nice. And keeping on top of the workload. That too. orz Today there was talk of putting some of us on night shift, which... hahaha, NO.

☆ I received my NoFM assignment. I'm delighted with it. Hopefully I'll be able to start writing tomorrow, or at least look over the letter again + do some canon review. I already have some ideas, sort of. And maybe consider treats... (though I suppose I should leave that until I have a draft of something, hm.) This exchange had some initial pinch hits, so if you like small fandoms and have some time to do writing/art, I might suggest checking over at [community profile] nightonficmountain to see if there's anything you can pick up.

☆ There is going to be a YOI rarepair exchange starting up toward the end of the month. Check over at [community profile] rareshipsonice for the preliminary info (IIRC the mod has mostly decided re: schedule etc, but some things might be subject to change). I think this might interest some of you. I haven't decided whether I want to take part myself, but it has a 500-word minimum, which is very doable, so maybe....

☆ Kiraly drew two of my characters and they are adorable* and I am delighted. <3 I should write more things with them. Yes. When I have the time.

☆ It snowed this morning. AGAIN. Insert giant frowny face here. >:( I am not pleased with this development.

☆ Wow, is it ever nice out! I'd forgotten how good it feels to be able to wear a normal amount of clothing, rather than winter gear. Went out today with minimal layers and it felt great. SO FREEING. (Of course, this mild weather is not exactly season-typical, and that is worrying, but whatever. I'll enjoy this while it lasts.)

☆ Real life is kind of a pressure cooker right now (to put it mildly) so I've been spending some time offline, trying to deal with that. Success has been... uh... varied. But! Hopefully with the weather turning, and the days getting longer, it'll be easier to deal with things. (That sounds kind of weird, I guess, but - it's just hard to get motivated when it's freezing and pitch black out, you know?) On the upside, one recent RL-related positive is that my optometrist appointment went well; I don't need glasses. What a relief. I don't need yet another thing to worry about right now. And also, I've made an appointment for a driving lesson... on Friday. Probably would have been useful to practice more before paying for something like this, but eh, in other ways it's better to just go to a professional. I might end up paying for a whole set of them, who knows. (I neeed to get my license, good lord.)

☆ Chocolate Box fics have been revealed!* And I received three wonderful gifts! I feel so spoiled. <3 I haven't had a chance to look at the rest of the collection yet, but I'm sure everything else is awesome too. In particular, I have my eye on the SSSS stuff (apparently there's a great Signe/Michael fic in there, I can hardly wait). And there's over 30 fics in the YOI section, so there's bound to be something to my taste. And of course I always look at the art, no matter what fandom it is. :) Anyway, my gifts were as follows -
+ Keep it Close. A Redtail's Dream, Jonna/Riikka, G, 3.2k. Pining with eventual get-together! *_*
+ Like a feather on the ice. Yuri on Ice + Hetalia crossover, Phichit + Thailand gen, G, 3.9k. Phichit has a mysterious friend and this is basically the crossover I've been wanting for a while, haa. <3
+ Not Your Style. Yuri on Ice, JJ/Leo, 18+, 2.4k, set a year or two before canon. *_* There is nothing I do not love about this; it's the kind of fic I've been wanting to read with them for quite a while now. <3

☆ Fests/Exchanges! I'm still on hiatus from signing up for things, and will be for the foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean I haven't been keeping an eye on things. Signups for [community profile] smutswap start next week (Schedule). I threw some things in the tagset, so who knows, maybe there will be requests I can treat. Also, the Porn Battle Prompt Stack is starting up over at [community profile] pbam; prompts are open until February 22. On the fence as to whether I'll toss some prompts in there - I do have ideas, but I'd feel bad for prompting without writing anything. We'll see.

☆ Gen2 is coming to Pokemon Go soon (according to details over at [community profile] pokestop) and oh my gosh, I can hardly wait. The game has been so grind-y lately, it'll be nice to work with something completely new. Though I expect that some of the game changes will cause it to be kind of buggy at first. We'll see...!

☆ I've started listening to an audiobook version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (unfortunately, Philosopher's Stone wasn't available at the time) and ohhh man, it's reminded me of how much I used to love that series. I haven't read the books in ages, and now I'm feeling so nostalgic. Looks like I'll end up listening to the entire rest of the series, probably. xD There is SO MUCH that I've forgotten about how these stories go! I mean, yes, I've seen the movies and so on, and rewatched some of the early ones a few years ago, but it just isn't the same. And now there's a part of me craving Hogwarts AUs for so many other series that I like. (Especially for A Redtail's Dream, because Fred and George make me think of Joona and Jonna. The thought of those two as wizards is just too funny.) Though as usual my preferences lean more toward fanart, hm.

After the previous entry's angst, I feel the need to scatter a couple of nicer things around....

New art by my mate Anneliese. Ahhh I love it when she posts new stuff - since she's so busy with school, she doesn't always have the time. That makes it even more special. ...I should hint at her to draw more snowy settings.

☆ Stumbled over this pretty Leo/Guang Hong fanart earlier today. Pair skating? Pair skating! Love it. <3

☆ New favourite song of the week is Love Sick by Mariachi el Bronx. I don't listen to much of this genre, so it's rather refreshing.

☆ And speaking of music, I remembered that CKUA Radio exists. They're a community-run station based out of Edmonton, and they play a wiiiide variety of stuff. Offbeat stuff, atypical genres, old jazz, independent Canadian music, lots of world music, obscure vintage songs only available on vinyl... it's great. I tend to forget about them a lot because they don't come in very well on my actual radio. But once again, the internet delivers. :')

☆ As always, little comforts: Chamomile tea, cinnamon buns, and some cozy calming ASMR. I find the gentle echoes and rain sounds in this one very soothing. <3
yuuago: (A Redtail's Dream - Kantele)
☆ Spent almost the entire day at the library yesterday. Sweet. Good times. It's so cozy in there. Anyway, I picked up Thomas King's The Back of the Turtle, which I've been meaning read for a while. Also found a book on the cultural history of Chinese cuisine, and that looks pretty interesting - hopefully it'll actually be as cool as it looks. Ooh, and they had Paprika, which is a film I've heard good things about but haven't seen yet - probably going to watch that one tonight. Anyway, books were obtained and writing was done. Life is good.

☆ What the heck, I had no idea Bastille released another album this past September... man, I really need to get better at keeping up with bands I like. Haven't been able to go through all of the tracks from Wild World yet, but man, I do like Fake It, it's pretty good. <3

☆ I have three stories that're all drafted out by hand, and I need to type them up, and I really don't want to. Arrrgh! This is one of the worst parts of writing, well, anything. I write best when it's by hand (with a few exceptions) but then there's the whole trouble of... getting it onto the computer. OH WELL, looks like I'll be going to the library again today, in that case. :F For the curious, the fics are my chocobox assignment, and an 18+ aRTD fic (Jonna/Hannu), and a SSSS fic with my OCs from the Kajaani settlement (Vesa/Suvi <3).

☆ SSSS: I've been thinking again about that SSSS fic that I wanted to set in my area - specifically in Fort Chipewyan - and I keep feeling overwhelmed. In some ways the situation in northern Alberta would be a lot different from the canon's Nordic setting, and I keep getting varied ideas about how to account for that. But it's a lot of stuff that I find hard to articulate; partly caught up in how the geography is somewhat similar, but the population distribution is very different, and how would that affect life 90 years after the apocalypse etc. And the technology available in post-Rash Denendeh would be much different from what we see in Finland, I'm sure.... ALSO I keep tripping over things like what to call Beasts and Trolls - an obvious parallel for Trolls would be Wihtikiw, but that is not a Dene legend. There is apparently a Dene concept that is sorrrrt of similar, Wechuge, but it isn't really the same thing. I'll probably try reading a little bit more before I settle on the fussy issue of vocabulary - I mean, it would make sense to go with the Dene word, but the problem is that I haven't tripped over it in any reliable sources for that yet. So... to the library, then. :V Again. (Oh no, how terrible, how will I survive, haha <3 )

☆ YOI: There is a White Day Exchange; I just heard about it today. Minimum for fic is 700, which is doable (I had to ask the mod on twitter about it - the minimum wasn't written in the profile/faq - hopefully they fix that). Today is the last day of nominations, so I threw in a few pairs... I'm waffling on whether to sign up for it, but at least I have a week or so to decide. Could be fun! Or, eh, maybe I'll just treat. Who knows!

☆ YOI rec: A Hundred Flowers in Bloom by Chiharu. Leo/Guang Hong, M, 9k. Summary: The 2022 Beijing Olympics open on the fourth day of Chinese New Years with twelve lines of lion dancers forming into a dragon. This year, Guanghong only has three resolutions: to not drop the flag on international television, to win Olympic gold for China, and to fall out of love with Leo. | YOU GUYS, oh my god. I love this fic so much. It's lovingly-crafted, you can really tell that the author put a lot of heart into it, both into the story as a story and also into giving everything the right "feel". I just - pining, and skating a program about unrequited love, and then the ending...! So lovely. There's only one thing I'm not crazy about, and it's Phichit's characterization - but I can't put my finger on why, exactly. That's such a small thing, though, and it doesn't distract from how awesome the rest of the story is.

☆ It's starting to get a little too warm up here. The municipality has shut down all of the outdoor skating rinks, and my socks keep getting wet when I walk to the bus stop. I think there might be holes in my shoes. But I can't really bring myself to buy new ones until spring. I always feel kind of conflicted in mild weather like this, because yes, it makes spending time outside a lot more enjoyable, but... it's unseasonal, completely outside of the usual for January, and that's a bad sign. I mean, aside from the fact that mild weather means ice, we need the cold here for other reasons. I hope it snows soon - we need more precipitation, badly. And if it stays warm too long, the ice-road might become unsafe, and... I mean, I don't use it, but that would be bad. So many mixed feelings.

☆ I have two lightweight scarves in progress, and a bunch of yarn that I haven't done anything with yet. But I keep looking at more yarn, because I'm a dumbass who goes poking around in the fibre arts section of etsy even though I know that it's too easy to get tempted by pretty pictures of yarn. Terrible! I really should, uh, finish knitting these two things... and block them... and then use up the other balls that I have, first. But that's what everyone says, I think. :Va I don't even know what I want to do for my next project - I have some more scarf patterns that look great, but they're charted, which - bleh. I can knit by chart, sure, but I don't prefer it.

☆ I told myself I wouldn't do any more exchanges for a while, but [community profile] worldbuildingex is in the nomination stages right now, and oh man some of the stuff that's been nom'd already looks really good. The worldbuilding prompts, and the fics that resulted from that, were one of my favourite things about Silent Night Exchange, and I see that there are a lot of good things in the SSSS tag for this exchange already. ...Maybe I'll just treat. I can do that. Right? (We'll see.)

☆ I was reading random YOI fic while on my lunchbreak and stumbled over this adorable Leo/Guang Hong story: one to make your heart remember me by Strikinglight (3k, G). So sweet! What can I say, I'm a sucker for Leo POV and using music to express affection. <3 Unfortunately, I don't often have luck finding work that's to my taste when it comes to this pairing because I tend to give up on even sorting through it... so this one was a fortunate find.

☆ I have no idea what's going on with the weather. It was like -5C yesterday. I was able to go out in just my autumn coat. Didn't even need to wear a hat. I'm not COMPLAINING, mind you! But after those arctic blasts we had, it's a little weird.

☆ This whole "trying to get less screen time" thing is... ehhh. I'm trying, but part of the thing is that I spend so much time staring at screens at work. And then when I get home, I don't have much energy for anything except mindlessly browsing anonmemes. Like, I try to read books (easier on the eyes) but I can't concentrate. ...Maybe I should try just putting on some music and going for a run instead. Normally it doesn't work so well when I feel like that; I find it difficult to get into the right mindset for it. But if it's something soothing and instrumental (like Ólafur Arnalds, maybe) it's possible I'll have more success...?

☆ I've heard people murmuring that they want a YOI rarepair exchange to exist. (Well, it'd probably be an "Everything except Victor/Yuuri" exchange, let's be real.) I want it to exist too. But I don't want to be the person to bring it into existence. :V Hopefully somebody will take this up, because it's a Good Idea. In the meantime... Chocolate Box? Lots of neat rare requests in there, and I hope to write some myself.

☆ Speaking of YOI, look, MadameFolie wrote something: View from the Top: The Power Pair That Shook the Sports World Victor/Yuuri, T, 1.7k; it's written as a magazine interview accompanying a photoshoot! Read it if you like unusual fic formats. Ahh man, I just love her work, no matter what fandom - so many of the things she turns out are exactly to my taste.

Well, then.

Final count: Stand Still Stay Silent (35), A Redtail's Dream (22), Hetalia (9), Yuri on Ice (4), Frozen (3), Original Work (3), Mad Max (1), Song of Achilles (1), and Rose of Versailles (1).

Dear Chocolatier,

Hi! I'm looking forward to being your recipient. The prompts I've outlined in this letter are just guidelines; if you have a great idea that doesn't hit my dislikes, go ahead and do that! I'm sure it'll be awesome. Many of these pairs are ones that I've requested before, so if you need more ideas, it might be worthwhile to look at my previous exchange letters.

In some cases, I've requested both & and / versions of the pairings, and I've folded them together in the prompt lists. Most of the things that I love in gen relationships are also things that I love in romance too, so it made sense to organize them that way. For medium, I've requested both fic and art for everything, because I appreciate both equally. Rating-wise, I'm equally okay with anything from very mild shipping (G-rated stuff) to 18+ scenarios for any of the requested romance ( / ) pairings. For the gen ( & ) pairs, I’m fine with anything from G to M, the latter especially if you’re doing horror fanwork! :D

Comments/questions/requests for clarification are welcome. For reference, my ao3 name is yuuago.

☆ Stayed home and baked cookies today. Mmm, shortbread. Nice! Since we don't have any room in the freezer, we'll probably just package it up in a tin and stick it out on the back porch. If we left it inside the house, it wouldn't last until the end of the week....

☆ Opened my package from Melusine today. <3 She sent me the most delightful things, you guys. The way to my heart: chocolate, tea, and flamboyant earrings (with peacock feathers!!). ;D Ooh, and she also sent a novel, Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart. It's set in a fantasy(?) version of ancient China. Sounds neat, I can hardly wait to read it. Has anyone read this one?

☆ Things are getting heated in SSSS. This is one hell of a chapter... We're about to see Onni do something COOL. AHH. I am all about that music-magic, yo. Though I don't know if he'll be enough to save Our Heroes. Probably not, considering the ghosts have more firepower than they did the last time they went head to head. This seems like the kind of place where Pastor A would need to step in, though I'm not quite sure how that would happen - they aren't anywhere near her church, as far as I know. (Related: I hope some day we'll eventually know what her name actually is. That would be nice.) Anyway, I bet that when the print version of this part comes out, it'll be great to re-read. It seems like the kind of thing that would go down well if taken all at once rather than in daily updates.

☆ Speaking of SSSS, I'll confess, I'm not terribly excited about the visual novel side project. I mean, sure, I'll take a look at it when it's released, and give it a playthrough, but right now I'm having difficulty getting interested in it. I think it's because it's an alternate universe (though at least it's a SciFi universe - that should be fun). I'm not into AUs even at the best of times, and that includes even when they're canon AUs. ...But, who knows. It'll probably be fun. The author certainly seems excited about it, anyway.

☆ On the YOI side of things, AHHH Folie wrote some Leo/Phichit/Guang Hong... and it's excellent (as to be expected). 1.1k, 18+, goooo read it over here if you like that ot3. <3 ...I have one of my own that I started working on a little while ago; I should probably put a few more words on it some time soon.
