Man. It would be really nice if my coworkers would stop telling me, "YOU NEED TO GET A SIGNIFICANT OTHER".

I don't have any need for one. I don't even want one. Nor do I even have time for that shit. (Seriously, between work, family responsibilities, housework, and writing, I have very little free time. Seriously.) ... Not to mention that the last thing I would want to have to do when I'm not at work is talk to somebody. No, thank you.

I'm sure they mean well, but it's annoying as fuck. Goddamn. щ(◉Д◉щ)

The motivation for making such a statement varies, too. Like, are you saying this because you genuinely believe I would benefit from it, or are you saying it because in your head, everyone must be partnered to be happy?

The best part is that when I heard this stuff the most (college), almost nobody who said it to me then subsequently approved of whoever my significant other was at the time. *facepalm*

I feel your pain! I honestly assume that more often than not people are bothersome about the significant other thing because they get a kick out of playing match-matker, rather than because they want what's best for you (I mean, I really doubt they're doing it for your best interest given their disregard for your discomfort). I dunno, people need to learn how to back off. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't try to disguise it as genuine concern for your welfare.

Also! Given people's reactions, it seems that "I don't want a relationship" sometimes gets interpreted as being condescending, as maybe implying that you feel you're """above""" needing a relationship. Which is total garbage, of course.
