The Terror - first thoughts

So, I finally got around to watching The Terror, or at least the first episode of it. I don't think this is a series I would want to binge, because it's rather bleak (then again, anything about the Franklin expedition would be). I get the impression that the entire series has been leaked, but I'm going to be watching it bit by bit as it becomes available - I have access to the first four right now.

Just as I expected, it's VERY pretty - at least, if your aesthetic leans toward ships, ice, arctic sea, and misery. HELL YES.

Even in the first episode, it's clear that they aren't following the book directly; it's a rather loose adaptation. I already sort of knew this, but it's nice to confirm it for myself. And I'm glad for it, because while there were parts of the novel that I liked very much, there are other bits that definitely weren't great, so... Since they aren't following it very closely anyway, hopefully this was seen as an opportunity to improve on the original.

(Also, apparently people are shipping Silence/Goodsir? HUH... Well, it certainly DOES look like there were some changes. :Va I will have to see about this when I watch the later parts.)

I quite like the dynamic built up between Crozier and Fitzjames; they're full of contrasts and it's fun to watch them pick at each other. "You should cherish that man." Pfff. Oh, Franklin, seriously....

Anyway! Looking forward to the rest of it, yes. :D But I'm glad that it's rather short. Ten episodes sounds perfect. Though, I hear it will have a second season, which seems... weird. I guess I'll have to wait until the end to decide how I feel about the idea of that.

...Also I must say, I find Tobias Menzies very attractive as Fitzjames, even more than I expected to. Oh dear. :D How lucky for me that he has a rather good amount of screentime. I think I'm going to enjoy this series very much, at least in terms of visuals.
