[community profile] holiday_wishes is a comm recently brought to my attention - the general idea is that people can post wishlists of up to 10 things, and others try to fill them. What a nice idea. Perhaps some of you will post your wishlists?

[community profile] fandom_stocking has signups open! I don't think I'll be signing up for this fest this year, but I'm going to browse through the possibilities and see if I can fill anything, as always.

Three Sentence Ficathon is happening on Livejournal. Leave a prompt, take a prompt, have fun. I remember that I really liked this fest last year, so hopefully this year I will as well.

[community profile] femslash_kink opens for prompting in a couple of days~ I might try writing something for this, depending on what the prompts are. Or maybe I'll prompt something and then... fill... my own prompt... (I have such a craving for some fucked up Marzanna/Vesna lately, seriously).

☆ [aRTD] My pal Kiraly drew some aRTD fanart of Tuomi and Hare for me and ahhh I love it. Go look at it, it's so pretty! <3 <3

☆ [Music Rec] I had some actual stuff to say but I can't remember what it was, SO, here's a random music rec: Good Prevails by Alpheus. I don't know a whole lot about ska/rocksteady/reggae as genres, but I know what I like, and Alpheus sure does have a lovely voice. "Our Strength" is a great track, ditto "Show Some Love" and "Reach for the Top" and - well, the whole album is solid, really. Aaand since I'm on the subject, if any of you have some ska/rocksteady/reggae favourites that you'd like to share with me, I'd love to hear about them! Like I mentioned, these aren't genres I explore much, so I'll give anything a try.

☆ Aaaaand November is over! That's a wrap! Wow, this month went by fast. I'm surprised and amazed. Where did the year go?!

☆ Speaking of which, that means NaNoWriMo is over. I managed to write more than I ever expected - I had been aiming for around 10k, but I doubled that and reached 20k! Wonderful! It helps that I had a lot of exchange fics to work on, and the write-ins definitely helped too. But the habit of writing every day, even if it was only 100 words, was... effective. I think I'm going to ease up on that a little now, and focus on editing more than output, because I really want to get some of these drafts finished. (Though I managed to finish several already!)

☆ Good news: the local NaNo group has decided that the write-ins will continue. Which means... I suddenly have a social life. I. What? How did this happen? I'm really happy about it, but it's surprising. Regardless, I now have something to do every Sunday afternoon. Sounds good! Plus, we're moving the time slot up a little earlier, which means I'll have plenty of time to catch the bus after it's over - so I won't have to leave early, like I did a couple of times. ... I don't expect that I'll form any long-lasting friendships from this. But it's nice to have something to do every weekend. Plus, think of all the writing I'll get done!

☆ I'm all finished up with the gift I was writing for the SSSSForum's secret santa, so now I can plunge headfirst into editing all those Yuletide drafts. I have one with pending revisions thanks to Qichi (seriously, pal, I really appreciate it, there are a lot of things there that I would not have seen on my own) and then... it's a matter of editing the others. One will be tricky, because it's longer than what I usually write, and it has a lot of action. Pfuh. AND I started writing a fourth one on Saturday, so hopefully I'll be able to get that done. It's challenging in an entirely different way - diary format, which I don't normally write, and from a completely nonhuman point of view. Fun! But also difficult! We'll see how this turns out.

☆ Like I've mentioned before, I'm not signing up for [community profile] fandom_stocking this year, because I found last year a tad stressful for some reason. (I dunno'. Brains are weird.) But it looks like they're going ahead with it this year, so if any of you cool cats on my flist are going to participate, you should totally mention it in your journals so that I can keep an eye on it and see if I can fill some treats for you. <3

☆ Today has been very... up and down. In a lot of ways. I don't know why, but lately I'm finding it hard not to get irritable at people for the tiniest little things. Kind of frustrating; I don't like myself when I'm like this. Hopefully I'll figure out what's wrong with my mood and fix it, somehow. (A run might help....)

✿ That P D James novel I was reading (Unnatural Causes) is starting to get better; at least, more able to hold my attention. This is good. Though I can't decide if it's actually getting better, or if my attention span is just settling. It's possible that I just haven't been getting enough sleep, so I've been wanting to sleep on the commute... anyway, it's likely I'll read more of this author in the future, because while I'm not all that interested in inspector Dalgliesh as a character, I like what James does with setting/atmosphere, and her writing has a nice texture. That's something I like. (This is your Reading Wednesday entry, unofficially. Whoo.)

✿ Note to self: Finish those last 4 postcards and toss them in the mail, you lazyass. ... I feel like I'm doing fandom backwards when it comes to SSSS, at least a little, because normally I don't go around sending mail to people until I've known them for a while. But, there was a postcard exchange, so why not, right? It's kind of crazy, though. I mean - people give their addresses out so freely these days (including myself, apparently). The internet sure has changed a lot since I first got into fandom. It's fun, though! I look forward to having my mailbox stuffed with postcards from around the world... I wonder if there'll be another exchange at Christmas time. Probably so. That will be nice, I think.

✿ Yuletide Exchange schedule is up. Hooray! ... It's way too early to be thinking about December-related anything, good lord. But at least we now know when nominations will be open. Like I've mentioned before, I'm definitely participating this year. I'm a little nervous - some of the fandoms I'm planning to offer are ones that I haven't written in before - but I expect it'll be a fun challenge. I don't think I will be joining any Hetalia exchanges this year, though, unless I finish my Yuletide assignment early. I also don't think I'll be doing fandom_stocking this year - or rather, I think this year I will do only filling, not join to have a stocking put up. Last year, it kind of pushed the anxiety buttons in an unexpected way; I received so many more replies than I expected - honestly, I had expected a handful of replies from people on my flist, and then maybe one or two from strangers, but what I received was much more than that - and it was overwhelming, and my brain went a little haywire as a result (though thankfully I was able to reply to everyone, and within a quick timeframe). And I know it's entirely just because my brain does stupid things sometimes, but I'd really rather not have to deal with that. Maybe next year.

Sometimes I feel like I have two settings:

01. Enthusiastic and cheerful and chatty! Hello stranger, let's be friends!

or

02. I want to hide in bed and not come out and not talk to anybody ever.

... Today it's the latter.

However! Comments were unscreened at fandom_stocking last night, and it was fun to go through them. And I didn't expect to actually receive any fic, but I did! Some Frozen stuff, a nice little thing with Elsa and Anna being adorable - anyway it's here and it was very nice to read it before I went out in the way-too-cold morning to go to work.

I can hardly wait until the weekend. Things are at that stage in the week where every little thing is so very... tiring.

Some point-form notes, since it's easier when I'm tired!

✿ Been thinking about doing the fandom snowflake challenge, since everyone else is doing it. ;p And also it looks like fun. But I haven't decided yet.

✿ I'm not much into MCU stuff, but Agent Carter sounds really cool, and I'm thinking of watching it. It helps that Captain America: The First Avenger was the MCU movie that I liked the best. Also, apparently it's only going to be 8 episodes? Hell yeah, short series! Sign me up.

✿ I'm thinking about getting a Crunchyroll account, but I'm having trouble deciding. The thing with subscription services like that is that you have to actually use them in order for it to be worth it, of course, and I'm really bad about blocking out time to watch anime/read manga. But it might be worth it for a couple of months? Maybe? I don't know, do those of you who have an account like it?

✿ My Yuletide recs post is almost done, but I've been too tired/busy to finish writing it. I'm rather glad that the authors have been revealed, though; it'll be nice to be able to link to them for each one. And maybe I will check out their other fics, too.

✿ My Ao3 has a fandom_stocking gift listed! Ahhh this is exciting, I wasn't actually expecting to receive fic in that fest. I'm super curious, but resisting the urge to shake it - the stockings should be open by tonight, anyway.

✿ Have you ever had a moment where you're reading a novel and suddenly you're thinking to yourself "Are these femslash vibes that I'm getting intentional on the author's part, or are my goggles just on too tight?" Yeahhh. The novel in this case is White Fire by Preston & Child and I think it was deliberate, but I don't know. Regardless, it's enough to make me consider trying more books in the Pendergast series... er, after "no-book-buying 2015" is over, of course.

So, a few weeks ago, someone informed me that the Network is a Dreamwidth feature that exists, sort of like LJ's old friends-of-friends page. Even though I've had my paid account for a while, I never actually noticed it because I read my flist via a bookmark and hardly ever actually look at my journal. Anyway, I love this thing; I read it regularly now. (The "Latest Things page is fun too, though 60% of that tends to be either roleplay-related or Russian entries depending on the time of day... but it's still interesting.)

Anyway, point is, recently I saw an entry where someone was talking about their fandom_stocking requests and holy crap, I want to fill this person's stocking so badly. I thought I was done with this fest! But I guess not. Good thing it goes until after Christmas, because I'll probably need that time if I'm going to do anything for this person. I might even try to write some (short) fic... in a fandom I've never written in... but ahhh they like all the things that I like about it. HELLO STRANGER, LET'S BE FRIENDS.

... Definitely going to have to finish my Nordic Exchange fic first, though. Mod sent out a reminder that it's due on Christmas Eve. I thought we had a day or two after that, but I guess not. Oops. I can definitely get it done in time, though! I'm just currently psyducking over it because I really would rather be working on almost anything else. This pairing + this time period = a combination of "meh" and "why", basically. But, I can do it! I should work on it tonight.
yuuago: (Default)
I'm finished all of my Christmas cards! What a relief. But I have some stamps left, so I might track down some more people for their current addresses. I don't know. Have to decide. I'd normally just leave it be, but the stamps that I have remaining are Christmas stamps, so I might as well use them up for now. Or not.

I also finished with [community profile] fandom_stocking, at least for now. Decided that I would fill 6 stockings, and I did 6, with 7-9 icons in each. So, I'm done for now. But later on I might do more if the mood hits me, especially in the (unlikely?) chance that someone requests one of my more obscure fandoms. Or... I might write a drabble or two. One of the people who requested Hetalia likes Denmark/Norway, so I think I might be able to put something together for them.

But for now... I really need to concentrate on my exchange fic. Maybe I should bring the paper drafts to work so that I can scribble some things down during lunch? I know how the story will go - it's just a matter of writing it out, and the sooner I get that done, the better. One thing that has me a little concerned is that it doesn't feel set in the time and place. It's supposed to be Kalmar Union, but it doesn't feel like a history fic. That's... a problem. I should fix that.
yuuago: (DenNor - Be with you)
I've been trying to get things done in the last few days, but the success has been... mixed. Working on the fic for the Nordic exchange is going pretty slowly - but I'll get it done. The recipient requested stuff set during the Kalmar Union and while it's a pretty important period, it definitely isn't my favourite. Nothing I can't handle, though.

So many fic ideas for things other than what I need to be writing, though. I have some vague ideas for some 18th-century Denmark-Norway/Russia stuff that I'd love to develop... buuuut it will have to wait.

Aside from that, been making icons for [community profile] fandom_stocking. I decided that I'd try to do at least six fills. Well, I'm halfway done, which is nice. I like that this gives me the opportunity to participate without having to write anything, since the number of canons that I can actually write for is really limited.

Probably going to start the Christmas baking tomorrow! Very excited about that. :D
yuuago: (SuFin - Morning)
Ahh! The post for my stocking in [community profile] fandom_stocking is finally up! It's here. I mostly listed my currently-active fandoms, which most of my flist doesn't share, but greetings are lovely, so. Also if y'all are participating, you should link to yours too, so that I can drop greetings (and hopefully goodies?) in them.

I already have seen a bunch of stockings that I want to make icons for, so I'm going to try to do that after I finish my real-life Christmas cards and wrapping and whatnot.

... Wanted to write Yuletide treats this year, too, but I don't think that will happen at all. Maybe next year.

Oh no, I'm coming down with a headcold. D: On the upside: It's the weekend, so I won't have to take time off work. On the downside: I had stuff I planned to do this weekend! Argh!

I guess if I end up stuck in bed all weekend, I certainly have a large backlog of reading that I can go through, at least. That won't be too bad. Currently way behind in my reading, and I'd like to get through some of it. But this isn't what I'd had in mind.

Anyway - I decided to participate in [community profile] fandom_stocking this year! It's my first year doing it. I was a little unsure at first, but decided to dive in anyway... at the very least, I made sure to give lots of extra information in case people have trouble filling for my fandoms. As for me, I think I'll try doing icons for people; I've been in a very icon-y mood lately.

Lately there are some journal entries that I want to write, but they require time and thought and they're halfway journals and halfway meta and it's just hard to put them together. That won't be happening this weekend, definitely. But I've been writing down the ideas, at least. So far it's a couple of entries about themes in Sabaton's music, and some stuff about the Millennium trilogy, and my overall impression of Mushishi since I never did get around to writing an entry about that after finishing the first season, but... time. Where is it? I need a time-turner.

Now, I should head to bed (an hour early, ugh. And on a Friday!) but I'll leave you with my favourite of Leevi and the Leavings' Christmas songs, since it's almost December.
