*_* So, I discovered that there is a TV series being made about the Franklin expedition. More accurately, the Franklin expedition + monsters.

It's called The Terror, and it's coming out in March.

Trailer is over here: voila

It's based on a novel; The Terror by Dan Simmons. The library has it, and I am so going to have to read this. And watch the series, of course.

It's hard to communicate how excited I am about this - the trailer looks so good! Hopefully the actual series will be just as cool. The only issue is that I might not be able to watch it as it comes out... I do terribly with television, really.

WELL at least I know what I'll check out on my next library trip, now... *_*

I read the book a few years ago and it started off great but became a problematic snoozefest by the end. It had some fantastic ideas, though, and potential to be really scary, so I'm interested to see if the TV series is better.

Yeah, the portrayal of the FN woman (the one in the trailer) was sexist at best, misogynistic at worst with a bonus heaping of racism - and not even in a way that could be 'explained' by 'historical accuracy'. There was also a really homophobic subplot.

(a lot of people also seem to dislike the amount of historical detail and description in the book (think Moby Dick level of detail) but that didn't bother me nearly as much as the anticlimatic ending)
