Massive Anglo-Saxon hoard discovered in Staffordshire

Videos related to the discovery

Further news on the Anglo-Saxon hoard

The internet community has exploded with information about this. I'm rather excited, of course, though I would be more interested if an important manuscript or something had been discovered. But of course, things like treasure get more attention.

I have had a splitting headache all day due to caffeine withdrawal. This is what happens when I do not have enough coffee... I didn't get any until late in the afternoon and by that time it was bad. Ahhh, me. Why do I do this to myself. Well, no matter. The point is, my head hurts so badly that I cannot sleep. Mm, but I'm so tired that soon I will take some painkillers and lie down and just try to sleep anyway. I don't know if I'll be able to. But, we'll see. There will be coffee time with my colleagues on Friday afternoon as usual, and I do want to go, and I don't want to be too cranky at that time.

I have not written anything in the past few days. This is a bummer. I should try to remedy it. :| Or at least edit some of my backlog, ahhhh....

ALSO Tikula is back from vacation and this makes me very happy. <3 Yes.

Ah, also saw that yesterday. The treasure is still intricate and cool looking!

And some of it has inscriptions! That's still better than no writings at all, right? :D

I thought it was amazing, really. In perhaps a worrisome fashion I found myself admiring those historical goodies with greedy eyes, though I certainly did appreciate the knots. It's actually impressive how well preserved those are, I mean, I've seen far more decayed artifacts, even if metallic.

Is it me or was the belt buckle a fun finding? I keep focusing on the fact someone, back in the day, wore a belt with a *gold* buckle.

Meanwhile, having read "Secrets of the Middle Ages" by Holy crap where did I leave that Goddamn Book, this only comes to validate some of the comments the author made. The middle ages, despite all our going on and on about them being dark and gritty, were actually rich with artistic development *even* under the crushing force of clerical censorship.

...uh. Okay, I've run out of smart things to say. Holy ff those are pretty shinies.
