Attending: Me, M1, Si, Ed, Eth, Ma & Jo, Ve, Na & Chr, plus two kids whose names I don't recall. TN-sensei instructing and J-sensei assisting.

Today we worked on harai-goshi. In this one, the turn is standard. The movement is kind of like an uchimata, but instead of between the legs, it's on the outside.

The most important thing I remember is that you need to pull up, and pull your opponent toward you. Also, the left hand needs to twist upward. This pulls the fabric tight against the arm and gives you more leverage.

J-sensei showed me a grip that is very effective. First, you have the standard grip, sleeve and lapel. Then, you take your right hand and grab the sleeve you're holding with your left, pulling it down. Then your left hand scoops under and you put your fingers inside the sleeve, and grip it. This gives you a very hard, tight, firm grip. It's great for harai-goshi.

I was still feeling kind of congested, but still had a pretty good time at class. I'm glad I went.
