Judo adventures 4.30

Attending: Me, TJ, C, No & Ch, Si, G and one of the colourbelt kids whose name I don't remember. TN-sensei instructing.

Today was about tai-otoshi. This is one of those throws that I find kind of difficult because it's hard on the knees.

Sensei emphasized that you should keep your back straight up and down, no bending. And that when you go low, you need to spring up.

I partnered with Si. He also finds this throw a little challenging - getting that low can be hard.

TN-sensei also suggested some options for setting up the throw. For the first, you use a fake/shallow ouchigari to get your partner to step back and to the side. This gives an opportunity to get into the position for tai-otoshi.

The other setup is when you are fighting someone the opposite hand than you; such as if you are fighting someone left-handed. It's kind of a tricky setup though and I don't remember exactly how it goes.

Anyway.

The "dojo cleanup and Christmas party" is on Thursday. I ended up volunteering to drive C to/from... he might end up not needing a ride, but we'll see. I really gotta stop doing things like that.
