Judo adventures 4.18
Nov. 1st, 2025 09:36 pmAttending: Me, Ed. Si instructing. He also brought someone, Gen, who... I'm not sure - might be a friend or a relative. She seems nice. Never done judo before. Anyway.
We started off with uchikomi. I partnered with Gen and we worked on some basic setups and later moved on to turn ins for ippon-seoinage.
After that we pulled out the crash mat and worked on throws. Gen was tired, so she just watched (and looked after her kid, who had come along)
We worked on sode-tsurikomigoshi + variations, as well as setup for other throws. Basically if someone evades your sode by sliding off the hip toward the right, you can go in for a tai-otoshi instead. You can also use sode as a setup for osotogari by grabbing the sleeves, doing part of the movement for sode, and then catching the leg as you would osotogari.
We also worked on standard tsurikomigoshi a bit. I like that it involves a turn to the other direction - "left handed" turns are good for me. We also worked on a variant that has the lapel hand on the left side rather than right.
Overall, very productive class. It was small because a lot of people were at EYJS today.
