Judo adventures 4.12
Oct. 15th, 2025 10:34 pmAttending: Me, M1, Si, C, TJ, Ma & Jo & Ge, Na, G, Ed, and Eth. J-sensei and TN-sensei instructing.
Today we worked on sode-tsurikomi-goshi, which is fun. TN-sensei emphasized lifting and punching. Also with the footwork, he recommended placing your right foot in line with the other person's foot, rather than centred. He also suggested using some deep hip action if the person you are throwing is bigger than you.
We also did regular tsurikomi-goshi. This one is very unusual. Instead of turning left, as with sode and with ippon-seoinage, you turn right.
Footwork: You step deeply forward with right foot, keeping heel up rather than letting foot go down. Then you quickly turn right, stepping with your left foot and turning (kind of like T-sensei's left-handed ippon-seoinage). The left hand, holding the sleeve, goes up and punches up and forward. From there, it is a hip throw.
It was very interesting to learn a new technique. I'm not sure how practiacl this throw is, but it's interesting to do.
Then some randori. I didn't participate in that today. Wasn't in the mood.
Looking forward to Saturday's class.
