Judo adventures 4.09
Oct. 1st, 2025 10:16 pmAttending: Me, M1, M2, TJ, Ma & Jo, Mo, Eth, Na, Ed, Jaz, new guy named CJ, new guy named Ky, other new guy whose name I didn't catch, plus N, Si, J-sensei, T-sensei. TN-sensei instructing.
Today was a huge class. A bit too big for my taste.
Today we worked on harai-goshi. It took me a while to get it, even though I've done it before, because I couldn't remember which one it was, basically. I partnered with TJ and J-sensei.
A few observances:
- This one works best with the sleeve hand gripping halfway up the sleeve
- The footwork is the standard step and turn setup used for ippon-seoinage, except of course the final move is a reap
- It is indeed a reap, best done halfway down the leg, below the knee
I feel like I need to drill this one more to get it.
During randori, I partnered with Si. Didn't get anywhere. And also halfway through my pants fell down. Oh, well, at least I tried.
There are going to be some new classes. There will be a "Fundamentals" class introduced on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's somewhat earlier than the usual classes, starting at 7PM (ish). There will also be a later class after that one, also on Tuesdays and Thursdays, that is more for competitors. I'm very interested in the Fundamentals class, but I don't know if I would be able to go. I have a standing appointment on Thursdays once per month. Aside from that, 7PM is... very early. I would barely have enough time to get home, eat something, and then pack up my stuff to go back downtown again. But I'll think about it. I feel like I could really benefit from a fundamentals class.
