Judo adventures 4.05
Sep. 15th, 2025 10:02 pmAttending: Me, M1, M2, C, TJ, Mo, Ma & Jo, Ed, N, Na, Eth, Ri-sensei, J-sensei, J-sensei's son, T-sensei, aaand... our new instructor, TN-sensei, who will be our new paid permanent instructor.
It was a big class today because, well, see above. TN-sensei has come from Japan to have a (hopefully) permanent paid position here for the foreseeable future.
It was a very good lesson today. He focused on technique for classic ippon-seoinage, and discussed the footwork, which is good because I have been kind of struggling with good footwork lately. He emphasized keeping your step inside, at an angle, with heel off the floor; second step, inside; when you turn your feet should be parallel. I tend to end up a little duck-footed, but after working on it for a bit I ended up more parallel.
He also emphasized throwing from the bicep when you bring your arm under, rather than the shoulder.
We did some drills. I partnered with J-sensei. It worked out pretty well. It was tricky with so many people on the mat, but taking turns helped.
Then there was a bit of light randori. I did a few rounds with J-sensei. Didn't manage to do any throws but I made some attempts.
It was a good class! Sweated a lot, haha. Looking forward to the next one.
I'm not sure if I want to go to class this upcoming Saturday. Like, I do want to, because it's the first Saturday class of the year. But I'm participating in the 3km race on Sunday. So, it's going to be a very busy weekend. ... I guess I'll have to wait and see.
