Judo adventures 3.26
Dec. 4th, 2024 09:51 pmAttending: Me, VP, one of the kids, and T-sensei's son N. Instructing: TN-sensei, T-sensei assisting. We also had a new assistant, Ja-sensei.
This was a short class because TN-sensei was doing his qualification for level 2 instructor. The person who determines this was zooming in from Edmonton to watch the lesson. Modern technology is amazing. T-sensei completed his qualification earlier today. Anyway, now they will both be qualified for grading.
The lesson was mainly osoto-gari. TN-sensei recommends making a sweeping motion with your right foot when ou do it, pointing straight. This gives you the leverage/space to do a powerful reap. It's tricky, but I think I have it.
He also recommends, when doing it in motion/moving forward, to do a push on your right foot's step before moving in with the left step to go in for the throw. This provides momentum and sets your opponent off balance.
He also showed an interesting variant - you pull with your left hand to provide room, block with your right forearm against the elbow of the now-open arm your left hand is holding, then go in for osoto-gari. N tried this out and he seems to like it very much.
This class was short but I feel like I learned a lot. Looking forward to next class.
