Judo adventures 3.14

Attending: Me, M1, C, SJ. T-sensei instructing.

This class was mostly drilling and conditioning. We went through various kinds of uchikomi, entering, etc, including fakeouts where you push someone and then pull them in for a throw.

We worked a little on T-sensei's technique for controlling your opponent's arm; one thing I keep forgetting is that it requires grabbing hold of the top of the sleeve, or rather on the upside of the arm, rather than on the bottom per the usual grip. If you try to grab the bottom, you won't be able to execute this.

We were also discussing the differences between gis. M1 is hoping to get a new one for competition - the style he has now is pretty flimsy, whereas the traditional style has a much thicker and stiffer fabric, which is good for competition because it's more difficult for your opponent to grip. I have one of each, and personally I prefer the thin gi because it fits me better, but I can see why the traditional one would be better for competition.

Next week, there might not be weekend judo. T-sensei will be in Edmonton, and will be coming back Sunday... he said that he might try to have a Sunday afternoon class, but I think I won't be able to make it, because I'm so busy and also because that day is my father's birthday party. But ehhh we'll see.
