Judo adventures - Summer session 04
Jul. 11th, 2024 10:50 pmAttending: Me, M, C, A. T-sensei instructing.
D was sick today, so T was in. :V
We worked on the various control techniques that T-sensei has been showing us recently. He really wants C to use them, because they'll be very useful to him in competition.
We also worked on Harai-goshi, AKA hip sweep. Or at least I think that was the name. It's like a combination of lift and sweep - as if you were going to mix an uchimata with a hip throw. IDK, I'll have to practice it a bit more.
We did an exercise where you pull your partner around, putting them in a position to do uchimata or ouchi-gari. It improves coordination and form - while you pull them, you sweep your feet into position, and then you're able to execute the throw. Could be useful for practice. Though also possibility of getting dizzy.
I was throwing M around a bit. It's quite challenging, but like, sometimes a challenge is good. It exposes possibilities or weaknesses that you hadn't considered before. And then you can work on them.
... There was more today, but I don't remember what any of it was. :Va
One thing I will note is that I probably should learn more like... judo Japanese. I know some basics, but there is so much that I don't currently know. It might help me remember the names of the throws. But that's one more thing on a mile-long to-do list, augh.
