Judo Adventures - Summer Session 01
Jul. 2nd, 2024 10:40 pmAttending: Me, M, M2. D instructing.
First day of summer classes. It was small; just me and M2 at first, and M1 showed up later - he works at one of the farther sites and has a long commute.
D intends for us to learn more about using motion.
We started with the "left-hand variation with right-hand grip" version of ippon-seionage that I've learned with T-sensei. After that, moved on to morote seoiage, and after that, free throwing.
He focused on footwork a lot - not just as part of form, but the way that foot placement affects the motion and kuzushi.
At the end he taught us a new throw. A weird one. And kind of crazy. I didn't get a name for it (& I don't think he knows it in English). It's for when you're with a left-handed opponent who's using a left-handed grip.
With your right hand gripping their lapel, on the inside: use your elbow to make them lift their arm. Drop down on one knee: drop to your right knee, and your left knee is up, square, partly between their legs. This positioning is weird, but anyway - scoop their leg (the one on your right/their left) with your left hand, and draw your pulling hand (right) down. This will bring them up and over your shoulder.
It's a crazy intense throw! And tricky. I'll have to find out what it's called.
Anyway, good class! Very fun. I enjoyed partnering with D - he's very light, and fun to throw. :P
