Judo adventures 2.22
Feb. 21st, 2024 10:13 pmMonday was a stat, so no judo that day.
There were so many people here today that I'm not going to bother listing them all. On a high note, M3 has continued to come to class, so that's nice. Also, L was back after a long absence. I was really happy to see him; I kind of missed him. Sensei was instructing.
Started off with groundwork. Began with a roll into a hold down. Opponent is in turtle; face them. Grab belt with right hand, then go in under their arm (your left/their right) with your left hand and grab their belt with that hand, too. Then roll them. You go further with your left hand, under their arm - this will take them into a position where you can get them on their back, with your right hand still gripping their belt. And that gives you opportunity to slip your left hand under to grab their belt again for a north/south hold.
After that, a choke. I don't remember the set up, but somehow it got you into a position where you have your right arm under their chin, and you grip your left sleeve; then you slip your left hand behind their head and push/pull. Very nasty choke - not one I would want to use, if I'll be honest.
Then some uchikomi etc. Varied stuff, the usual. Partnered with VP. Along with the typical, sensei also had us do uchi-makikomi, which was unusual because it's an advanced and tricky high-level throw. I do like it, though, because if you can finish it properly, it gives you an opportunity to slip directly into a kesa-gatame hold at the end, and it's very impressive if you can pull it off.
We ended with several rounds of randori. Did two with VP, and one with V-chan. Got my ass kicked both times. Ah, well, it was still fun. :V
The club is doing custom orders for gear with our logo on it. I'd love to order some, but my budget doesn't currently allow it. Maybe next year....
I overheard sensei say that V-chan is definitely not a yellow belt. I expect he'll be upgrading her soon, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. (She's very good, very strong, and... definitely not a yellow belt.) Originally, there was supposed to be upgrading at the end of the month, but that was changed to the first week of March due to a scheduling conflict. I'm pretty sure I will not be upgraded, but I don't particularly care. :V Mostly I'm curious as to where he'll put V-chan - orange still seems like it would be too low, but I'm not exactly in a position to guess.
