Judo adventures 2.10

yuuagoI wasn't planning to go to judo tonight, since the classes this week are just "extra classes" for people who want extra practice. But VP messaged me to say that T-sensei would be instructing. We haven't seen much of him since he moved to the Northwest Territory to teach judo there, so of course I had to go.
Attending: Me, M, M2, Se, N, + teenagers H, C, Kz, + Ja (M2's kid). + T-sensei instructing.
T-sensei likes to spend a lot of time drilling the basics, with the intention of getting you to do them perfectly. Since I'm still trying to nail down the basics, I find that very helpful. (Not to mention I've been off the mat for like, three months.)
Started off with some basic groundwork review - kesa-gatame, transition to kata-gatame, transition to north-south. After that, we did some groundwork randori, and then upright randori.
Since we had an odd number, I worked with H & Kz for the drills, and did only half the rounds of randori. I was reaaallly tired afterward, much moreso than I would have been this time last year, but it was very fun.
I was worried about my foot, but I wore a brace, and so far everything seems to be okay. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. Since we didn't do much upright today, and nobody tried footsweeps on me when we did, that's a factor to consider. ...I should also buy a second brace, I think. If I'm going to be doing two classes per week. (I washed it right when I got home, but I'm not sure if it'll be properly dried out by next class.)
Jury's out on whether I'll go to Thursday's class. T-sensei says that it will be more focused on upright work. But we'll see how I feel then. The actual "regular classes, start of the year" doesn't even start until next week, so if I don't go, it's not a big deal.
I'm really glad that I went today, though. I've missed it a lot.
