The judo club had an open board meeting that members were encouraged to attend, so this evening I went to it.

Really glad I went! It was just a small group showing up, which is disappointing but what I expected, in line with previous. (Man, you know, showing up to stuff like this is really important.)

The meeting was in our dojo; I haven't stepped foot in there since October, because honestly, I was getting kind of bummed about the whole "Going to watch but not being able to participate due to injury" thing. Anyway - we're still in the, uh, temporary space next to the space where we are supposed to be moving into. The other martial arts club hasn't actually moved out yet, so we can't move in. They were supposed to be out by the beginning of November! What's taking those jujitsu guys so long to get their asses out of the building?! Well, apparently construction in their new place isn't finished yet. ...Anyway, this all consumed a bit of discussion. The current move date is December, but I'm thinking more likely January at this rate. :V

Anyway! It was worthwhile to go - lots of talk about plans for fundraising, what kind and what amount, etc. It's necessary to step up a bit since we aren't using the school gym any more. And - something that I kind of knew, but never really realized - when it comes to tournaments, it's fucking expensive for our club to send people there, if we're sending a bus. This is due to our location; we're so far away from literally everything, and it adds to not just the transport time (getting anywhere takes a whole day), but also increases the cost Hugely. Like, my eyes popped out of the head when someone gave the figure to send a bus down to an upcoming tournament, and that's with a bus grant.

The talk about fundraising and budget led to discussion about how at some point, depending on how things go, it might be necessary to have someone volunteer to handle some of the administrative work. Honestly, I wish I could - some of the administrative things they mentioned are things that I'm good at. But with my job, well. I just can't. I know that if I tried to do work and admin for the club and all of the million other things that I'm doing, I would burn out very quickly. (And once again I'm daydreaming about being so loaded with cash that I don't have to have a job, so that I could focus on fitness and fun and volunteering for whatever thing that catches my eye. Augh.)

There was also discussion about the possibility of open mat classes on Saturdays. And some special one-off events, like family classes, which could become more regular if they go well. Very exciting!

VP and F were there; it was nice to see them, even if it was kind of embarrassing to have to explain that yeah, I'm still in recovery. Aughhhh. Well, my next physio appointment is at the end of the month, so hopefully I'll have good news then - but I'm thinking that, realistically, I won't be able to get back on the mat until January. If I'll be honest with myself. Ah, well.

Anyway. Glad I went! Sounds like there's a lot of stuff to look forward to! Wonder when the hell we're going to actually be moving in to our new space. ...And I really hope I'll be able to do judo again in January. orz

Weekend open mat is my favorite, I hope your dojo can start it too.
