Judo adventures 2.9
Oct. 25th, 2023 10:27 pmWent to judo again - like last time, it was just to take photos.
Attending: M, M2, VP, S, D, and one of the teenagers. Sensei instructing.
It was nice to see everyone. Still exasperated that I wasn't able to participate, but... well. My next physio appointment is Thursday of next week, so we'll see what the verdict is at that time.
With the photos, they're used to promote the club on its facebook page. It's pretty easy to get someone to take pictures for the kid classes, because there are parents on the sidelines willing to do it. But with the adult class, there usually isn't anyone on the sideline. So, that's where I come in. I'm still figuring out how best to do it - sport photography is really hard - but hey, you only get better at something by doing it.
They did a round of groundwork focusing on arm bars. I didn't get the specifics of the move, but it looked more elaborate than the ones that we've done before.
Partway through, D gave a demonstration of a trick for when you're on the receiving end - if you can shrimp out of an attempted arm bar before it's fully executed, enough to ensure that your elbow is below your opponent's waist, then they won't be able to actually complete the move.
After that, throwing practice. They did ippon-seoinage, tai-otoshi, and a sideways uchimata. Really disappointed that I missed out on that uchimata - it's a throw that we don't practice often. Ahhh, well.
Apparently there's going to be a Halloween party at the dojo on Saturday. I kind of want to go, but I kind of don't. I'm still feeling kind of unwell. I guess I'll wait until Saturday and see how I feel, then decide.
