Judo adventures - Summer session 06
Aug. 22nd, 2023 10:22 pmAttending: Me, L, and L's cousin T. Se and V instructing.
Lots of drilling today!
I mainly worked with T. He's only been to a couple of classes, and that was before the break. So, we did drills today. Set-up drills for osoto-gari, then grip drills, then alternating set-up with full osoto-gari throw.
It was very hot, so even though we weren't doing randori or anything, we ended up pretty tired very quickly.
Later, V showed me a different throw that he wanted me to try. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the name for it. The positioning is like...
Thrower's left hand gripping sleeve; then thrower's right hand gripping opponent's lapel on thrower's left (opponent's right), rather than the standard grip on the right. Foot positioning: Start with right foot forward. Then move forward/in/back with the left (as if to setup for ippon-seoinage; left foot aligned with opponent's left foot). And then right foot steps in on opponent's right. Drive either back or diagonal with lapel and sleeve grip.
I'm describing it very awkwardly, but it's really good, really fun. Going to need to see if I can practice that one more in the future. Will have to find out what it's actually called tho. :Va
Looking forward to next class!
