Judo adventures - Class 75
Jun. 22nd, 2023 10:37 pmEarned my half-orange belt today. :D Sensei doesn't usually do half-colour belts with the adult class, but since we're very soon going to go on break for summer and there were a few of us who are halfway to orange, he decided to mark the progress. Yay!
Attending: Me, VP, M, G, L, and L's cousin, T. Sensei instructing.
So, today we were working on a new throw, Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi. It involves using pulling/turning motion + putting the arch of your foot against your opponent's ankle to destabilize them and get them down.
I was working with VP, and it took us a bit to get the hang of it. The positioning is kind of weird at first? But I think I'm starting to like it. The pull/turn motion is one that I use a lot when doing randori with J, because of the way he moves... going to have to try this out on him the next time we do that.
Anyway, we worked on a combination of osoto-gari as feint for sasae, and then reverse - sasae as feint for osoto-gari. And then finished with just doing a big sasae onto the crashmats. No time for randori tonight.
Aside from me, other people were upgraded; M and VP also got half-orange, and G earned his yellow belt. :D Yay!
Sensei says he's working on getting us space to practice 1 time per week over the summer. We'll see if that works out.
