Judo adventures - Class 28
Dec. 8th, 2022 10:58 pmLarge class today. Of the regulars: Me, J-kun, K-kun, Se, and L; T-sensei instructing. Also, Si showed up; he'd been out sick for a bit.
And also K-chan showed up after being away for quite a few weeks. She said she'd been in a different judo class for a while (I'm assuming the kid class that she'd been in before) but today she came back to the adult class - and also her mom came to the class with her. Her mom, who I'll dub J-chan, seemed really interested in giving it a try; she used to do wrestling in high school and such.
Before class started, Se was talking with me and K-kun, all, "So, you'll be getting that yellow belt pretty soon, yeah?" Hmmm, I don't know about that, buddy! I mean, yes, it would be really satisfying to move up, but I don't feel ready for that yet. I feel like I'm still working hard to get even a halfway decent grasp of the basics!
Anyway. Since today was short class + one newbie, we worked on some review of basics things - grips/grip breaking, basic throw review, etc.
We did have some time to break into pairs for randori, which is great because there wasn't time for that last class. K-chan sat out, so I went with her mom, J-chan.
J-chan is pretty tough! Sure, it was just her first class, but she gave me a run for my money. :D She seemed to be enjoying it a lot, so hopefully she'll decide to stick around.
After that, I went a round with J-kun. I wasn't able to find an opportunity to throw him at all, argh! But then again he's been training hard lately, on account of preparing for competition, and he's hella fast and hella strong, plus he kept trying fancy stuff on me, soooo... [/waves hand vaguely] Whatever! Dude's a menace and he really kicked my ass. :D I did get some decent evades in, at least.
Then a round with K-chan. She said she wasn't sure if she felt up for actual randori, so we just went through a review of each of the throws that she knows, step by step, since she hasn't been in the adult class for a few weeks. I get the impression that she's like... she's not a fan of upright randori because she's really scared of falling. Hopefully if she keeps coming to class, we can work on that together, figure out a way to get her more comfortable with it.
Anyway! Very fun class, though much too short. Speaking of which, me and K-kun and Se were talking about that; we aren't sure why the Thursday class is shorter, and we all wish it was as long as the Tuesday one... They were going to ask T-sensei about that, to see if it could be adjusted. I'm not sure if they actually got around to it.
