Attending today: Me, K, Se, and J; Sensei instructing. Also, new person - R, who has a kid in one of classes and decided to give it a try for herself, after Sensei's suggestion. Nice!

Sensei has been trying to expand the adult class, but there are some local challenges with that. We're an industrial city, and a very large amount of the populace is shift workers with extremely long commutes; it's one of the reasons L isn't always able to get to class, since he works at site IIRC (I used to, too, until a few years ago - and remembering how exhausted I used to be, I just can not imagine coming off a 10 hour shift, dealing with the 1-hour commute, then coming to class. Yeaaaah). So it can be hard to get people to come, even if they would theoretically be interested.

Anyway -!

Started with: Gripping/blocking drills. We changed up partners a few times for that, and then afterward, I was partnered with R for the rest of the class.

Next was assisted breakfall drills. After that, counter drills - one person goes forward as if to do a failed osoto-gari, steps back, then the other counters with kosoto-gari.

After that, we hauled out the crash mats and worked on ogoshi throws. We haven't done much with this one, so I found it tricky to get it right at first, even though the foot placement and whatnot shares some similarity to seoinage. Didn't take too long to figure it out, though.

R was a little unsure at first (no surprise - I found throwing kind of intimidating at first too), but seemed to be catching on quickly, hooray.

I really wish we had the same amount of time on Thursdays that we get on Tuesdays. The shorter class goes by so quickly. ;~;
