Judo Adventures - Class 23
Nov. 22nd, 2022 10:34 pmI was very tired today, but it was a good class.
Attending: Me, J, K, and S; Sensei and T-sensei instructing. And then shortly after class started, a new guy showed up! New Guy isn't new to judo though; he's a brown belt. Hopefully he'll stick around. New Guy's initial is same as S, so I'll be designating them Se (old S) and Si (new guy). And the reason I'm not differentiating them by belt colour is because...
...Se received his brown belt today! So, that was nice. :)
No new techniques today. Some review & kuzushi etc, and some groundwork randori, then upright randori.
Groundwork: Did a round with J, who told me he wanted to go loose and easy because he was feeling tired due to stuff he'd been doing yesterday, but we ended up totally going at it anyway. xD Received some tips from T-sensei re: using your knee to pin someone's leg down, which was pretty effective, will definitely have to use that when applicable. Also did a round with Sensei, which was fun, and K, who managed to get me in some compromising chokes (dude's been remembering the classwork better than I have [/shakesfist]).
Upright: Did a round with Se, though it was mostly him letting me practice + giving me tips on technique, lol. Also went a round with Sensei, but by then I was pretty exhausted.
I asked him the name of that new throw that T-sensei taught us last class, the one where you reach over, grab the belt, and then roll backwards - it's called sumi gaeshi. Then Sensei showed me a slightly safer way to do it; regular sumi gaeshi is pretty nasty, but there's a variation done from the side that's less dangerous for the person being thrown. I can't remember the specifics, but frankly I'm fine with that - even the easier version seems uhhh pretty advanced, and it's not one I plan to try in freeform situations at this point.
Anyway! Nice class, had fun, ughhhh I'm so tired, I need to go to bed right now---

(I got told today that my kuzushi was great. Yay! Forgive the preening, lol.)

Date: 2022-11-24 03:50 pm (UTC)No, that was pretty clear, thank you for the explanation:) It sounds like uchikomi, broken down more. When learning a new throw we also do the same process.
My first class, I was demo uke, and I threw my senpai in the first step of the broken-down uchikomi lol. (We knew each other outside of class, which is why I was demo uke.)
