Judo adventures - Class 04
Sep. 16th, 2022 10:35 pmWe'd usually have our second class on Thursdays, but for this week it was moved to Friday, and we had a substitute instructor, T-sensei, who I met during the first class.
It was just me and J today, which meant we got some great one-on-one instruction and lots of focus on proper form. And then we did some throws!
I kind of feel sorry for J at times - he ends up spending more time helping me learn than learning himself, at least sometimes it looks that way. :P But! He seems to be good-natured about it.
T did give J some instruction on a specific throw he wanted him to practice on me. J went to try it, and went straight for the ippon, haaa. [/facepalm] I didn't mind, but probably not the best idea to do full throws on me when I haven't mastered breakfalls yet! :P
And after practicing form for throws, we did some like, pseudo-randori, both of us attempting to break each other's grip and then following through to practice the throws we learned, while T checked our form. That was REALLY fun, and it's something we probably would not have been able to do if it had been a larger class.
My shoulder/arm is gonna' be so sore tomorrow from all those throws. Worth it.
Man, you know... it's fun to practice, but it's also fun to watch others practice; it was really neat to watch T and J working through the movements. Judo is tough, and it's not flashy in the same way that strike-based arts are, but it's really graceful in its own sturdy, up-close-and-personal way, and I love that.
