Auuuugh.

So, we're about a week behind in the processing at work. The person who was filling in for me was supposed to have assistance, but it looks like they didn't actually get much help, so they fell even further behind than I expected they would.

This much backlog is really Not Good. So, I have to go in for OT tomorrow. Probably a full day of it. Which I wasn't scheduled to do. I'm really not pleased about this. I had plans for Saturday! There are a million things I would rather be doing! I'm still exhausted from the trip back and really could do with a few extra hours of sleep! But I know I'll regret it if I don't do it.

This kind of thing really is Not Supposed To Happen. I should be able to take some time off without the department exploding/falling apart. So, I'm going to have to have a word with some people to figure out what exactly happened, and what we can do to prevent that, if anything.

The icing on the cake is that my coworker was supposed to be in today, but informed me yesterday afternoon that they'd be taking today off for an appointment. Which - that's fine, but how long have they known about this, exactly? Because if they'd known about it before I left, I really wish they would have let me know, so I could take that information into account when planning how to work through stuff on return. Arrrrgh.


tl;dr I'm going to have to do a full day of OT on Saturday to catch up on the mess left over from being off work, and I don't wanna.

Ooof, horrible! I hope you're able to get through the backlog and things calm down soon, what's the point of using vacation time if you come back and immediately have a mountain of work to do?

No kidding. :T I managed to get a lot done today, thankfully, but I'd rather it not have come to this... I'll definitely have to see if I can prevent this in the future by making the requirements for filling in more explicitly clear, since I feel like something wasn't properly communicated somewhere. (Sigh)
