+ It snowed! Again! Aughhhh. ...Seriously, every time I think about making an appointment to send my car in to get the winter tires switched out, it snows. What the hell is that. :V
+ I should make some Witch Door icons. Or YiH icons. Or Rose of Versailles icons. Or all of the above. Very much in an icon making mood lately.
+ OR MAYBE I could just rewatch Rose of Versailles in its entirety, since I would need to go through it to take screencaps anyway. Brilliant plan! (But where would I find the time?!) It's just that I was randomly looking through some saved fanart the other day, and bam, Lady Oscar feelings out of nowhere... Ahh, I love her so much. ;~;
+ In other news, work is still eating my life, BUT my trainee seems to be catching on okay so far, and this has left me a little bit of room to breathe. Been able to get to some work-related things that I hadn't had time to do previously, so I feel pretty good about things so far. I've never really trained anybody completely new before; just people who were transferring from other departments, and were already familiar with our software and part of the process. But even with my questionable teaching skills, it seems to be going as well as it reasonably could be.
+ The municipal twitter has put out some bear warnings. Ahhh, it's that time of year again, ain't it.
+ Been craving oranges all week! Tragic.
+ After spending far too long dithering (and too tired to slap down many words), I've been slowly picking my way through one of the FTH fics I have in the wips list. I have no idea what I'm doing! But so far writing is happening! I'll consider that a temporary win.
+ I have some vague thoughts comparing SSSS and Hetalia, in the sense that they are both wanky webcomic canons/fandoms that I've been involved in for an extended period of time, and how the wankiness manifests differently. But said thoughts are so scattered that I'll just leave that vaguery here for now. And yeah, even now, I still think of Hetalia as a webcomic. (Anime? What anime? There's no anime, what are you talking about.)
+ Work tomorrow! Alas! 6AM wakeup on a Saturday for me. (But oh, that sweet overtime pay. ;V )

Date: 2021-04-24 12:33 pm (UTC)I find the idea of little killers like spiders (and snakes) more unnerving. Just because they can turn up in small corners where you can't see them. If a bear decides to show up at your house, you'll definitely know. :'D

Date: 2021-04-26 12:56 pm (UTC)In this particular case, it's something along the line of "We've been having the same tense arguments for ten years". Very... cyclical, leading to a feeling of "not this shit again". Both have some of that going on here.
But one author has gotten less edgelordy over the years, and the other has increased.

Date: 2021-04-28 02:17 am (UTC)re: SSSS/Hetalia. It's partly what I've mentioned in the thread above to Scout. "We've been having the same tense arguments for ten years, and by this point it's kind of like, not this shit again". The usual discourse you'd expect re: Hetalia (that you probably saw when you were in the fandom) comes up cyclically, and by now it's like... there's not much to say. We've all seen it before.
With SSSS, the issues around the chick tract comic is just the latest thing in seven years (or longer) of conversations about the author's... uh, don't know what to call it. Insensitivity to various issues. Like I said in my entry about it, the fact that something like this happened is not surprising; only the evangelical Christian flavour of it is surprising. People have been talking about problems with SSSS for years; this is just more of the same.
So, cyclical wank. But there are some differences.
Hetalia has become less edgy over time. The older Jump strips were mild to the point of blandness. The new ones are kind of cute, in a very silly sort of way, but still pretty tame. There are various speculations for this - some people think it's because Himaruya is sick of Hetalia (and that he never intended it to get big to begin with), others think it's because he's being a lot more cautious about how he portrays things. I'd say it might be a mixture of both.
Sundberg's works, on the other hand... well. [/gestures]
Another difference is that as far as I know, Himaruya has never expressed contempt for his audience/fans. Obviously, he keeps his private thoughts close, and any public comments he made were ones I had to read through a translator, but he always came across as very... gracious? Whereas Sundberg most definitely does seem to openly be expressing negative things about her fans - that afterword in LP is one big slap in the face to a large part of the audience that was following her for SSSS. Which is just the icing on the cake, considering SSSS is her job.
Anyway. I don't know where I'm going with this; I just found it an interesting thing to think about.
