Just finished ep 26 of Rise of Phoenixes; brief shallow nonsense and multishipping under the cut.


Let me tell you, that bit toward the end when Nanyi tells Zhiwei "Your injury needs attention, you need to stop working Right This Minute" (except in much fewer words, because it's Nanyi) and then shortly after that when he's tending to her wound... yeaaah, that's the good stuff. ☆

I don't know what it is precisely about Nanyi and his relationship with Zhiwei that I like so much - I could probably untangle it if I gave it some thought, which I can't be assed to do right now - but however you would describe the tropes that make up their relations... yes. That, I like. :Db

Also I confess that I find Nanyi hotter than Ning Yi as far as "people to ship Zhiwei with" goes, but that's neither here nor there. (Lies, it's totally very important.)

(There is one Zhiwei/Nanyi fic on Ao3. Actually it is Ning Yi/Zhiwei/Nanyi. It is in Russian. Why does this always happen to me.)

And since I'm talking about Zhiwei multishipping, I might as well mention that I have a vague interest in Princess Shaoning -> "Wei Zhi". Because. Like. WELL, I don't actually like Shaoning much - she's spoiled and obnoxious and kind of awful and very batshit - but her interactions with and attitude toward Wei Zhi are rather compelling to me. Somehow. So.

It's going to take me forever to get through this series, but I don't mind so much. ;)

I love how Zhiwei collects suitors of all genders as she goes along. I can also see why they all fall for her! There's something about her that's just very attractive, and not just in the looks department.

Oh, don't worry, it's not a sensitive topic! I was being flippant. It's just that my grandmother vocally hated Russians all her life for understandable reasons - she was a child during the First World War and her village in Poland/Ukraine was close to the Galician front. Things were... difficult. But we don't have like, Soviet-induced trauma or anything.

I appreciate the caution, though. :)

That's totally understandable. There are some people from the older generation here who have the same kind of feelings for the Japanese, and I try to be aware of these things :)
