So, Avril drew Moomin characters in Polish folk clothing and I am delighted. Two of my favourite things in one go! :D

Though now I wonder if people have drawn Jansson's characters in folk clothing of Finland - surely someone's done it! But I've never seen it. Maybe I should go looking.

Seeing Moomin art on my dash makes me want to dig up my volumes of the comics. I have no idea where I've stored them, though. xD (Whever I put them, my Black Jack manga is probably next to it. I have a feeling they're in the exact same place.)

And it reminds me that I still haven't managed to get around to watching the new series. I have access to it, because I participated in the kickstarter, but setting aside time to watch it has been a big challenge. Response from my mates has been mixed - one loved it, another was very disappointed... Have any of you watched it? What do you think?

Not entirely a fan of the visuals myself, but that's just because I have so much love for 2d rather than 3d. Without actually sitting down to watch it, I can't really judge.

Oh, wow, that art's absolutely gorgeous. ♥ (One day I'm going to read and/or watch some Moomins! I really have to.)

I love that art. I've only read the books.

Those folk costume designs are so sweet!! And yeah, I feel you about the 2D vs 3D thing. I understand why they leaned towards 3D, because 2D is so painfully expensive, but the whole feeling of something is different when rendered in 3D. Maybe it's snobbery, but it almost feels less "authentic" in a way?

ohhh how CUTE! I keep meaning to get into Moomins too ... start with the 90s anime, eh?

Agreed on 2d vs 3d. Maybe it's the nostalgia but 2d always seems so much more charming than the 3d stuff. Maybe it's because you can really feel the work that goes into each frame (as opposed to the work that goes into rendering...)

I really want to watch it (I've heard good things about the 90's one, not much one way or the other about the new one yet) but I have no idea where to access it, heh. Maybe I should see if the library has it? If it ever went to DVD? I read one of the books and it was good, one of these days I should get the others back out. :)

I did some googling, and doesn't look like anyone's drawn Moomins in Finnish folk costumes. I guess it could be because the costumes are so regional - you'd have to decide which character matches which region.

I've watched a few episodes of the new series, and I don't like it. It's pretty, but it's a bit too busy for my taste. I think small children will like it, because it has similar kind of humour as a lot of contemporary children's shows, but for me it lacks the calm beauty of the (first few seasons of) the 90's anime.

(and the felt moomins. I'm sad no-one ever remembers the felt moomins :D)
