NZ - Christchurch donations

* The New Zealand Islamic Information Centre is running a campaign via Launchgood to raise funds for the victims of the Christchurch attack.

* There is also a different campaign run by NZ Council of Victim Support, via NZ-based crowdfunding site Givealittle. The site seems to be having issues right now, probably because of so many people accessing it. [Edit] Seems to be working fine now.

* Victim Support has opened an additional campaign at Everyday Hero on account of the overload/timeouts at Givealitte. (Details)

If any of you know of any others to take note of, let me know. I'll add them to the list. I'm looking mainly for NZ-based organizations; I figure they'd be the most effective.

Yeah, understandable. Good choice.

I think you've covered all the "main" donation sites, but there are other things that people have been doing to show their support. Such as leaving flowers and events for the arts and such. There are vigils and protests (I think) and other events.

(I'm just rambling from here on)

It's really awful because it's such a shock. We're a small(ish) island nation in the middle of nowhere, and we just don't. Have extremists taking violent action. Everyone's related to this in one way or another, I have Muslim friends, and some really close family friends live in Christchurch.

With the Earthquakes, it's another anxiety, especially for people directly affected by the incident(s). To think that this kind of thing, could happen /here/ is terrifying. The lack of care that the perpetrator displayed was bone-numbing.

(I think I'm doing a really watered down version of what my principal sent out, his was much better.)

What really drove the terror of this home for me was when my mum said, "it's the same as someone walking into (your religious/other thing, and opening fire." While it's not the same, it woke me up. Directly targeting and harming people based on religion or "supposed" wrongdoings doesn't make you "better than them."

It makes you a monster.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that just seeing people show their support is amazing, and heartwarming. As many people have said: you can't fight hate with hate; you can only fight hate with love.
