The Terror Series - Final Thoughts

So, I finished watching The Terror a few days ago. Good stuff! I found the ending very satisfying. Not too much or too little of anything. Considering the way the novel drew the ending out too much (among other things), I find this solution really fits.
Anyway - like I've mentioned previously, it's very good. Well worth a watch if you enjoy perilous expeditions + arctic stuff + a dash of horror. (There are things I liked about the book, but I don't recommend it, really.)
The series changed a lot of things; one thing I appreciate a lot is the difference in how they approached Cornelius Hickey's character.
One of the many things that bothered me about the novel was how irredeemably evil Hickey's character was. Normally, I'm not bothered by villains, but The Terror is based on a real expedition, and the characters are based on real people, and there's no evidence to indicate that the real Cornelius Hickey was any worse than the average person.
The series gets around this by neatly sidestepping the issue; the Cornelius Hickey in the show isn't the man who was supposed to be on the ship - it's someone who killed that person and stole his identity. More about that here. This solves the villain + RPF problem while still keeping Hickey's role in the story, and it's a pretty good way to do it, I think.
Anyway, I really liked that actor's performance; he really took that role and made it. :D I might have to see if he's in anything else that looks interesting....
I think that's all I have to say about the main series for now, unless something occurs to me later.
As for the second season, which will be airing in 2019... It sounds interesting, but I must admit, it seems kind of weird that they would go in this direction. An anthology series, with seasons completely unconnected to each other.... If the first season of The Terror had been an original thing, it would make more sense; but since it was an adaptation, it seems like an odd decision.
(Plus, keeping the title... I can see reasons for doing that, but also reasons it could have been changed, or for season 2 to be its own series rather than anything connected to this. It isn't just called The Terror because it's a horror series, gdi. Oh, well.)
It does sound pretty good, though. I'll probably watch it eventually. Though, since it won't be set in the polar regions or during the age of sail, it'll probably take me longer to get around to it.
