Sep. 10th, 2017 10:07 pmYou know it's time for bed when you accidentally put the relationships in the characters field... Maybe it's best to just, like, not let me near Ao3 ever. (Or maybe I could get some proper sleep for a change -- nah.)
Today was utterly nasty. Windy and cold and rainy all at once. I took one look outside, and decided to not even bother going out or anything, because it looked seriously unpleasant. (And now I feel like a lump, but, well. That's how it goes.)
Finished my letter* for
trickortreatex. You guys should all consider doing this one~ I love this exchange so much! Mmm, that bite-sized minimum wordcount. Delicious. :D
Leaving for vacation this Friday... Aahh! It'll be nice to go somewhere, even if it's somewhere I've been before - well, Victoria is always nice. Haven't decided what to do when I'll get there, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Though, considering so much of the Pacific coast is on fire, I'm a little worried about smoke. Not physically, but well - ugh, I'll just deal with it somehow if I see/smell it, I guess.
On an unrelated note, I made a crustless quiche thing yesterday, and it turned out really good. ...I had supervision for it, but eh. At least it turned out. ~Learning experience~ and all that. We were going to do another one of my recipes from that book of Fruilian cooking, but we took one look at the time/temperature suggested for baking the frittata, and were like "... this seems off". Sooo... we used one of mom's recipes instead. I might dump it here later - going to have to look for the card first.
I will be making fave dei morti, though. (The recipe from my book is online; you can see it here) I just need to order some powdered food colouring first. Or - well, you don't need to colour them, but the three-coloured version is (apparently) Friuli-specific. Since I was thinking about using them in dziady ritual, it would be most appropriate to make that version....
Ideally, I would make something of grandmother's as well, but - well. She never wrote down anything, so I don't have any of her own recipes. And finding anything related to Galicja is always such a pain in the ass for a multitude of reasons... Ahhh well, I'll figure out something. (Pfft, come to think of it, I couldn't go wrong with brandy and bread and scotch mints, could I...)
"Oh yes, I'm going to cook for my grandparents, who have been dead for however-many decades" - It sounds so silly when I put it that way.
...Unfortunately for me, Dziady is in the middle of the week, so I'm going to have to prepare everything beforehand. What a pain in the ass. Oh, well. >.o Ugh, it's so annoying when this thing falls on a workday, especially considering I really don't have very much privacy. Hmph.

Date: 2017-09-11 02:17 pm (UTC)Sometimes it's so very freeing to receive a request that's basically open to anything... so maybe "Go wild because this is whack" would be a totally legit prompt. xD

Date: 2017-09-11 01:16 pm (UTC)Anyway I'm mainly here because I found this great looking webcomic. Just a few pages are posted but I like the art and attention to detail (getting some Otoyomegatari vibes from it): http://raruurien.com/comic/1 Maybe you'll enjoy!

Date: 2017-09-11 02:15 pm (UTC)For this most recent one, it boils down to: You need to request at least 3 fandoms with at least 1 character each; you need to offer at least 4 fandoms and at least 2 characters each (...I think?), minimum requirement is writing 300 words or doing 1 clean drawing (IIRC), due in late October. That's it. Most other ones are similar, just varying by wordcount or what they match on (characters vs pairings), and you don't need to worry about the fiddly bits unless you want to.
Biggest issue for you is that an Ao3 account is required to participate in all of these, and you don't have one as far as I know.... Anyway, if you ever do decide that you want to try doing one, I'd be more than happy to help you figure out the terminology and process and so on.
Anyway, re: that webcomic, oh my god it IS lovely. *_* Thank you so much for linking that, I definitely will have to read it.
And this reminds me that I haven't read Otoyomegatari, even though I have been meaning t; I should see if my library has it...

Date: 2017-09-12 09:53 am (UTC)Glad you like the comic! You can read Otoyomegatari here: http://mangafox.me/manga/otoyomegatari/ I generally don't read comics on a screen if they were meant for print, but I think the really detailed art here benefits from being seen on a laptop. Some of the pages where people do crafts or hunt are true visual poetry. It's become one of my favorite comics of all time, so I highly recommend you dig in :D
