Jul. 17th, 2017 07:00 pmWhen people mention just... deliberately trying to summon a god to hold a conversation, it weirds me out so much. Even just casually talking to gods in general weirds me out.
I just. Nope, double-nope, nope in triplicate.
In times of crisis I can understand trying to call someone - I did try, that one time, and hopefully never will again - but just to talk? Or to ask for aid with something trivial?
Don't you think they might have something better to do? Not to mention, well -
I MEAN, maybe these people follow gods that are more... friendly, I guess, than what comes to mind for me. But man, in most of the stories I recall, human + deity contact tends to be a wild, dangerous ride.
This differs from just, ehhhh ritualized acknowledgement; I mean, in that case, you light a candle, you burn incense or whatever, you make your offering and acknowledge that they exist. Fine and dandy. But to call up a god like you're calling an old mate for tea, welll....
And this is of course leaving aside ancestral stuff. Nothing weird about calling your gran. Or the many dead, for that matter. All your relations. Entirely different ball game there.
It's one part of the ~witchcraft community~ (such as it exists) that will probably never cease to weird me out. Contacting gods has always weirded me out. Along with many, many other things. All I can do is sit here with my coffee and say, "That so..." Because I don't think I'll ever get it.
