☆ Received some new fragrance samples today. They're from For Strange Women's solid line. They come with the fragrance folded into ribbons, which is a pretty convenient way to sample solids, I think. So far they smell amazing... and I'm looking forward to scenting all of my drawers with the ribbons when I'm finished with them, heh.

☆ Here, check out a video of some scientists getting excited at capturing footage of a sperm whale. Apparently sightings of sperm whales by Remote Operated Vehicles are pretty rare. Anyway, it's really neat.

☆ Originally I was going to write some NSFW fic for Nordipalooza, but then I got hit over the head with an idea for some serious historical stuff today, so I'm probably going to be writing about the Battle of Narvik instead. Though the stuff I started scribbling down during lunch was about the entrance of ships into Oslofjord, so I could write about the Battle of Drøbak Sound, though I think I'll go with Narvik and just use Oslo as part of the frame. Or something. Anyway - this works well enough for me. Back in the beginning, I'd hoped to write some early 1700s stuff (let me tell you about my affection for Peter Tordenskjold), but I would have to do so much research in such a short time, and it can be hard to find sources in English. At least with Narvik, there is no shortage of sources in both English and Norwegian, and I've read extensively about it in the past. So.

☆ There are some things I keep running into with Hetalia fandom lately that have been driving me nuts. But I'm not sure I actually want to talk about it in detail. Mostly it can be boiled down to two things: Firstly, so many people in this fandom are really young, and they act really young, and while I usually don't mind, sometimes it can get exhausting. Secondly, self-righteous ex-fans who go on about how problematic and horrible the canon is are annoying. People who were never fans and who go on like this just make me roll my eyes; ex-fans who act like this make me angry, especially if they still engage in Hetalia fandom spaces even after saying those things. One can dislike the canon all they want - it certainly doesn't appeal to everybody, and I understand that - but if they don't like it, they need to get out.

Re: your last point, I see the fandom is still as full of hypocrites since I drifted away.

What I learned from being in Hetalia fandom on and off since the age of 13 is that the more I just focus on the series itself and ignore the fandom, the better state my mind will be in.
I really like the canon in Hetalia. I get so much pleasure from reading the comics themselves. I don't get so much pleasure from going on any Hetalia blogs on various sites on the other hand.
Some fans make me sad because they read too much into the series and the fandom has not changed much like, at all since the start of the first season (anime wise).
It does not help that I have a bad habit of accumulating ex-friends mainly from Hetalia fandom which some of which is my fault.

I prefer going to Pixiv myself. As for the tumblr tags, I hardly go into the tags anymore on tumblr. I wonder why the fandom started to decline as well. I thought we were doing better yet I feel it is in a bigger mess than it used to be. I mean it is no surprise that many people left Hetalia as a fandom even as far back as 2010...

I have to keep writing as well. I have a new fandom to write for though so I probably just post in the DW community. I know the fandom on tumblr for that series is not as insufferable but I noticed many of the writers on tumblr are serious about writing. I am a bit intimated because I don't think I am good at writing yet I enjoy it more than drawing.

Natsume Yuujinchou.

I thought of publishing to a03. I am scared of ff.net because I wrote two stories there when I was 13. I had no idea how to do stories back then so someone sent me a bad review. Which in hindsight, I should have not let that stop me and just simply give me a better incentive to not write crappy. I did publish some Hetalia stories mostly as a way to entertain my (now ex) friends on tumblr. I don't like those stories because I was pandering to my friends' taste and not my own. It did not help that I just simply make what if scenarios but never feeling the need to write them down as stories.

It was not until I met a good friend that I decide to revise and edit more so I can publish better quality material to the internet. He told me to pay attention to the books I read and just write. I think I am going to use dw and lj as posting materials since they have communities. I do want an audience so I can potentially meet like minded folks. However I am trying to write first and foremost for myself. Now the various snippets I write just yesterday and today comes off as something I like to write even if it is unpolished at the moment. Then again I used to think that I am only worth something if I write shipping fanfics. In Natsume Yuujinchou though, I write more general stuff because I try to read from canon and expand on it. I think I might write shipping fanfics once I am able to find a voice. It'll just come naturally to me with time.
