I spent my entire Saturday in bed with some kind of awful stomach bug. WONDERFUL. I'd had a ton of things planned - going to see a movie, getting some writing done - but no dice. :T Really, really annoyed about that.

On the upside! I did get some writing done today. My Nordipalooza fic is now 35% drafted, which is good, because I'm not going to have very much time to myself in the next couple of weeks. I'm having a hard time plotting this fic out - I know how I want it to end, but the stuff at the beginning is giving me trouble. But since I know where I'm going, now that I'm over the first part, it should be okay.

I think that if I do Nordipalooza next year, I might completely move it to May/June. Or even June/July. April/May was convenient the first year that I ran the fest, but with my current job, it's the busiest time of the work year. While this fest doesn't require that much trouble to run, since it isn't an exchange, it'd still be nice to run it without having work get in the way. But I don't know... I guess I'll see how this year goes first. And maybe I'll throw together a feedback form so that people can share their ideas too.

In the mean time, I'm going to have fun with this fic. 17th-century Sweden is always fun. And writing Bohemia is going to be an interesting challenge. I have some other things that I want to work on, but... they're going to have to wait.

As mentioned before, work is going to be getting really busy really soon. I'm going to have to go in for extra time in order to get everything done, argharghargh. On the one hand, it means extra money, yay! ... On the other hand, it means spending time at work that I would really prefer to spend at home, writing. Ugh. Well, let's see if I can get through this unscathed. :D

Anyway. The English release of volume 6 for Hetalia has been released. Even though I don't remember this one being all that remarkable (especially compared to the webstrips that were done), I'm still excited for it. I've put my pre-order in, and I'll be acting as proxy for a few of my friends since the company makes shipping outside North America difficult... I can't really remember much of anything about this volume, so it'll be interesting to read it through again when I do receive it.

I've seen some grumbling in the fandom recently about a lack of activity. But to be honest, it doesn't seem that inactive to me. There are still lots of people who are interested in it, and talking about it, and everything. Of course it isn't as active as it used to be - but it's pretty hard to top that, you know?

There might be a feeling of inertia, I guess one could put it that way. But that isn't going to change if people sit around and complain about it. Since there are still people in the fandom, it's possible to do things to encourage the kind of activity you want to see - like writing rarepair-centric fanworks, or history-centric things, or meta perhaps, or anything. But you need to put in some work in order to encourage these things, and it seems like a lot of people don't want to do it; they'd rather wait around and hope that someone else will do it.

I guess what I'm saying is, if you want there to be a certain kind of participation in the fandom, then waiting around and hoping it will spontaneously happen isn't going to do anything. If you want it, you need to put in the effort to make it happen. And if you do that and it still doesn't happen, then at least you can say that you tried.
