Oh gods damn it.
Jan. 25th, 2013 03:26 pmThis is one big personal blah so I'm going to summarize it as: My teeth are out to get me, and also holy crap, dental surgery is expensive and inconvenient.
A few years ago, I had to have one of my teeth removed because it split in half. Fun, right? Ugh. Anyway, I thought that was the end of it. But at my most recent appointment, my dentist said that I really should look into getting it replaced, because if I don't then it could have an effect on my bite and the alignment of my teeth later on, because the ones next to the space will start tilting into it. Okay, cool, understood.
Getting it replaced would mean implant surgery. Basically, they attach a screw into the bone where the tooth used to be, and then put a fake cap on top of it. They can do that here, which is a plus, but it's expensive. Ugh. Well, fine, at least they can take care of it here, right?
... Wrong. Went for my implant consultation today. They did a special scan, rather than the regular x-ray, and the doc took one look at that and said "Nope, can't do it". Because it's been a few years since the removal was done, the sinus area took an opportunity to sink down, and this means that they won't be able to do the implant right away. I need to get sinus augmentation surgery done first.
Problem is, I need to go to Edmonton to do this, which is over 5 hours away. This means I'll miss work, and miss pay, and have to pay to get down there and back, and whatnot. And of course, they can't do the surgery without doing a consultation first, and this means I'll need to go to Edmonton twice - first for the consultation and then again for the surgery. And the recovery time is quite long, which means that it'll be about a year before I can get the implant in, and that will cost even more money.
I'm just really frustrated with all of this. Insurance will cover some of the cost, but not all of it, and obviously not the cost for the transport. So it's just one more expensive thing that's going to take more time and I just - argh. What was supposed to be a simple, routine thing is turning out to be a big deal and it just royally pisses me off.
Anyway. Dealing with that is going to be a pain in the ass. Considering travel costs to get this done, and depending on how much the insurance covers, I probably won't get to travel anywhere this year. I only had vague plans anyway, so that isn't a disappointment, but still. Well, at least I'll still (probably) be able to go somewhere next year.
In happier news, I commissioned my buddy Bice for some aph art, and man, is it ever lovely. I'm probably going to use it in the layout for my fic archive, but who knows. Maybe it'll just end up as my desktop wallpaper forever. I was sent the black-and-white version too, and I might try colouring it, especially if I can get it to print properly on drawing paper. It's been ages since I've done anything like that, because I hate drawing, but I love colouring, so.
Anyway. I'm feeling pissy. Maybe it's time for some aggressive knitting.
