Ending the year with some friends-list cleanup. Basically, if I looked at a name on my flist and couldn't remember who on earth that person is, then I removed them. There's always a chance that I removed someone in error - sometimes people switch or rename journals and I can't remember who they used to be - so if that's the case, just let me know. I'm a forgetful one.
Not that it matters much nowadays. My FList is so slow; most of the people I have on here don't even update any more. This leads to me checking the flist and commenting less and... well, it's a cycle. Come on, people. Don't be shy about updating! I actually do want to know what's going on in your lives, y'know.
As for me, things are going well, and I'm really enjoying this vacation I'm having. Even though I'm not really doing much, I'm relaxing a lot, and that's certainly something. Better make the most of it! Holidays are always so much nicer once the actual holiday is over, I think. Christmas is stressful, but the days after it are easy - relaxing, hanging out with family, eating what's left of the cookies and enjoying presents. :)a
I've even been doing some fanfic writing! Another late 1600s story with Denmark and Norway, similar time to the last one. I've started to really, really like this time period lately - well, Nordics in the 1600s, and anything to do with the various Northern Wars really - and doing the research has been really fun. I wish there were more APH fics dealing with the Northern Wars, sigh - I haven't really come across many. Well, that's untrue - occasionally I come across things that are implied to be in the 1600s or late 1500s, but the historical period isn't situated in the story very well, and doesn't seem to have any importance other than it means that Denmark and Norway are living together. I want things where the historical setting is more the point/plot of the story, where the background has some kind of significance.
I've been thinking about my own writing lately, and I've come to a realization, though I guess I already knew it before. I write a lot, but I don't post most of it, and I think I know why now. Most of the fics I write set in modern day feel kind of flat to me and I'm never satisfied with them. But the stories that I do become satisfied with and do want to post are the ones that deal with history in some way or "current history" or whatever. The modern ones, which are usually just romance stories or porn or pointless sugary fluff, are mostly written to scratch an itch and after they're drafted (if I ever do finish drafting them) I don't feel like revising or doing anything else to them because they have kind of fulfilled their purpose already. (I generally don't get as much enjoyment out of writing them, either). On the other hand the historical fics are challenging, but very satisfying, and I'm more likely to be pleased with them.
... Not quite sure what this might mean, but it's interesting to realize it! And all that aside, I always learn so much when doing research for historical stories. :)a Ahhh~

Date: 2011-12-31 03:42 am (UTC)Oh, if in the process of doing research you find any good resources for Nordic history around the 1600s (or any time period really), do share.

Date: 2011-12-31 06:17 am (UTC)Hmm-mm, will do! Unfortunately most of what I know so far is cobbled together from various things - a paragraph in one book, some brief mention in another, sigh - but if I find something really good, I'll tell you.
Still stalking you ^^
Date: 2011-12-31 04:17 am (UTC)I've forgotten where you've hidden your other stories though.
As for having no motivation to edit, if you ever have one like that in the future that you still really want to upload I can beta for you.
I should be doing some more updating soon, since I got a lot of writing done when I had no internet ^^ Wish me luck in typing it all XD
I hope to see some of your writing soon! I'm sure it'll be spectacular ^^

And that's okay! <3
Date: 2011-12-31 06:27 am (UTC)My unrevised drafts tend to be not fit for consumption (and full of notes of where I need to go back and insert scenes, haha) but if I ever end up with something that has everything in it, I'll keep that in mind.
I don't know whether I'll finish anything soon, but I guess all I can do is keep writing and see what happens! :D

Date: 2012-01-02 08:57 am (UTC)I know what you mean about liking fics for the setting, though! It can be nice to know what's going on around with more detail. My own imagination can only see so much sometimes.
