Easy now, watch it go! 。・:*☆
Oct. 3rd, 2010 10:06 pmParts of this week have been awful and I kind of don't want to talk about it. BUT. There were some things that were good!
☆ I HAVE A JOB. I'm now employed! It's at a posh men's clothing store. Unfortunately, not exactly a career job. However, it's good to have some work while I brush up credentials to get something better. And even more, the pay at this place is really good - even compared to this city's trend of uncommonly high wages - and it's full time. Lots of cash and being able to get out of the house? Yes! Sounds good to me.
☆ My copy of La Grande Illusion came in. Oh good gods, words can't even describe how happy I am about this, and how much I love this movie. I've seen it several times, and every time over it's still wonderful. I hesitated buying it for months, because I preferred the Criterion edition, which is... very, very expensive, ahhh. But I finally caved and now it's mine and I'm going to watch it tomorrow. <3 I just wish I had someone to watch it with. I wouldn't be able to do that with my parents because they refuse to watch movies with subtitles.
☆ My parents are gone for four days! I'm looking forward to relaxing... and writing. It's very frustrating that I can't write here; ordinarily there are too many distractions and people bothering me, and if I write at the kitchen table (where I'm most comfortable sitting) then there are the inevitable questions about what I'm working on. It's better to leave the house to do it. But now I'll be able to do it. I really want to make some headway on that Sweden/Finland story, try to get it done. Maybe start something else too, maybe some Sweden/Norway or Estonia/Finland. And I have a few ideas for original stuff that I want to try working on. We'll see! This should be exciting.
☆ When I'm not writing in these next few days, I'm going to be studying French. Renewed enthusiasm, get! It's still so difficult but I mind a little bit less than I did before. I guess actually using it to write journal entries has been helping (though I need to keep up with that... need to do another). And I've finally decided what language I will do after I'm done with French. I've settled on Finnish. I guess it's not too much of a surprise, but I find it surprising that I reached the conclusion at this time. It's just, I was thinking about that language this morning, and then this feeling came to me, a feeling of "Yes, it will be this one. I want to try this one." But I won't start that until I'm done my French (probably at the end of the year), and even then I'll still keep up with French at Lang-8 because I'm sure that for quite a while I won't know enough Finnish to write an entry.

Date: 2010-10-04 04:39 am (UTC)And I THINK THEY WILL BE. Even if it is just "studying every day" as opposed to "studying twice in a week". One can do a lot in four days... ^q^
Also I thought you would. 8) And I'm sure you will 8) Because I expect I'll be wanting to punch some grammar even more than I do with the French. But even if it's difficult, it'll be worth it.
IT DOES HELP. Like, actually writing... man. If they'd done it that way in high school, maybe I would have retained more. Or maybe not.

Or just not getting something right, ahahha.
SIR YOU HAVE MADE THE CORRECT CHOICE.

Date: 2010-10-04 05:23 am (UTC)But pffft, silly. Why would you think you were reading it wrong or dreaming or not getting it right? You already knew that I like it.

Date: 2010-10-04 05:29 am (UTC)AND... well okay I guess you're right. But of all of them, I still favoured Finnish most. And there were certain other factors that influenced this decision, yes. But that's the main thing, that I like it best.
So now, no need to doubt!

Date: 2010-10-04 05:33 am (UTC)I think I have to go to school now, ugh...
But yeah if you find Finnish hard pffft, no WAY that could even happen I'll happily help you!
Even though I'm not a very good teacher but you don't need to know that.no subject
Date: 2010-10-04 05:35 am (UTC)Ahhh and have fun at school, you <3 Or er... well you know what I mean.
And I'm glad you say so <3 Because surely I'll find it difficult. Though most of the time I'll, er, probably be to embarrassed to ask for help from you, I bet. ._.;;; but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
And anyway, I don't care if it's difficult -- my enthusiasm will make up for it!

Date: 2010-10-04 09:30 am (UTC)Well this far the art philosophy teacher seemed slightly less crazy than usually. Still decided to spend most of the lecture drawing anyway. Also fellow student quote of the day: "This was the first weekend in a while when I DIDN'T go out drinking!".
Don't be embarrassed, I want to make sure you learn stuff other than random swearing I accidentally teach through molotovcoctails, sob.

Date: 2010-10-04 12:54 pm (UTC)UGH crazy teachers. Lovely. 8| ...and your classmates seem even worse than mine were. Wat. Wat, I say.
Anyway I'LL TRY it's just -- ehhhh I tend to get very embarrassed about making mistakes and being corrected on them by someone who knows more about (whatever) than I do, and this applies to like, everything, including languages. But I'll try to grow some balls and ask you for help when I need it.
"ARGH I DON'T GET IT! How would you say (phrase)? Is it like (this)?"
".... No, it's (completely different way)"
"Sob :c "
...Also while I find molotovcoctails hilarious, I generally don't remember the random vulgarity. It's other random stuff that comes up occasionally that I do remember. So. 8D

Date: 2010-10-04 08:13 am (UTC)I just figured out I don't have time for a job *sob*And Finnish is awesome, I really want to learn it! I just can't decide if I want to learn that, Japanese, Russian or Icelandic first =_=;;

Date: 2010-10-04 01:00 pm (UTC)(No time? That sucks! I hope things will be less crazy for you soon <3 )
It is, it is! Oh, I can hardly wait until I'm done French so I can start with Finnish, ahhhh.
I think you should learn it first but I'm biased ;) Though those other ones on your list are awesome too, omg Russian *_*

Date: 2010-10-04 01:04 pm (UTC)Ooh, do want. щ(✧ヮ✧щ) I hope you get a lot of writing done.
And again, congrats on the job! It's no big deal if it's not a career job. You aren't planning on staying for more than two years anyway, right? It'd be a pain to work your way up somewhere and have to move right after. /o/
Hee, Finnish, I approve. ♥ I know you won't need them for a while, but let me know if you need any recs for books. I know some good ones. And I'm sure you'll do just fine, it's not so hard if you have drive and people to help you with it.

Date: 2010-10-04 01:14 pm (UTC)And you're right, you're right. Though the thing is, part of the reason that they've been pushing career jobs (with good reason) is that here, it is possible to move up while living away. This is an oil town, and once you're in, no matter what the position, you can generally get a job with the same company in another city, as most of them have offices in Edmonton or Calgary (where I'd probably be going after this). So if I can get something, it'll be a whole lot easier to get a job after moving. But first I need to get some credentials - I'll be doing some online courses in office administration, probably. Sigh.
Anyway, ahhhh Finnish <3 And I probably will be taking you up on that rec-offer when I get closer to being done this. *_* And I hope I'll do all right... I have like, no talent for languages but enthusiasm will make up for that (hopefully). At the very least, it'll be a try at learning something other than a romance language, thank gods.

Date: 2010-10-04 02:03 pm (UTC)Ahh, I see. Well, you can always look for a different job while you work. And more experience never hurt anyone. (But the real prize is probably just getting out of the house, eh?) Those courses would probably help a lot, ngl. Boring as all hell, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
It's hard, but personally, I find Finnish easier than French perhaps because of enthusiasm alone. (And I had a teacher for French, even. orz) But maybe romance languages are just not my cup of tea. Well, you have a while before you have to worry about it anyway. Good luck in any case.
