Feb. 18th, 2010 11:14 pmToday went pretty well, even though I didn't get a whole lot done. I went down to physio, and the end result is this: The condition of my wrist is not getting worse, which is good. Unfortunately, any improvement that is going on is going slowly. That sort of thing is expected with nerves; they heal slowly. But it's still very frustrating. I'm going to have to be very careful to not put pressure on my wrist, and to do the proper stretches every day, and now in addition to that I need to massage it at least once per day. Aside from that, there isn't much I can do, aside from making sure to write as little as possible, and take frequent breaks when using the computer.
This just sucks so much. I hate not being able to do things - but aaa, I guess I've complained about that enough, haven't I? And it's my own damn fault, too, though I really didn't suspect that something like this would happen. Oh, well. At least I've learned. Taking breaks when you're doing homework is important. DON'T FORGET THAT, GUYS. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Sigh.
Anyway. Moving on. Recently, I re-read what I do have of Saiyuki, volumes 1-6; including volume 4, which I was missing for ages but now have. It was pretty nice to read through all of them again, in order, especially because it's been a few years since I last read them. One thing I noticed is that everything flows a lot better compared to the anime. No surprise, considering the anime has so much filler, but I wasn't expecting such a stark contrast. I do still like some of the filler episodes, though. Random adventures = A++, if used in moderation. I look forward to reading the remaining volumes, though I don't own them yet. Speaking of volumes, I'm not sure how to count these volumes in my "read 100 books in the year" goal. Comic books do count, but I'm unsure how I want to count re-reads, and to be honest I feel the urge to count manga series as all one book, rather than separate books. However, that's kind of ridiculous, because I would count other series (Moomins etc) per volume, rather than as one book, sooo I won't be doing that. I think what I might do is count re-reads as 1/2 a book, because I'll have read it before, but chances are I remember nothing.
Now, back to anime. One thing that the Saiyuki anime made me realize is that I really don't have the attention span for long series. 50 episodes was just too much for me; I was flagging by the end of it, even though I was pacing myself by only watching one or two episodes per day. I prefer series that have 25 or fewer episodes, like Weiss Kreuz. That's something I can keep up with. Fortunately, the other series I want to watch through - Trigun and Utena - are about that length. Otherwise, I'd probably have trouble paying attention again. I think all of this has to do with my more generalized problem of not usually having the patience to sit there and watch television for any length of time, especially if I'm not doing anything with my hands. All the more reason to hope that this injury heals faster.
Watched the USA VS Finland women's game today. 6-0, for USA. Couldn't be bothered with my own team. Sure, Canada's playing against Switzerland, but that's the men's team, and as I've mentioned before, I'm not too hot on men's hockey (though I will be watching a few games - especially the Sweden VS Finland men's game on Sunday, hell yeah).
Not gonna' lie, even though I had a feeling Finland wouldn't win, I am kind of disappointed. However, I am pleased that they gave it a really good go. In comparison to Canada VS Sweden last night, when it seemed like Sweden was just kind of giving up, Finland gave the USA a really good fight even though they were ahead by a relatively high amount. That's probably why the gap didn't end up larger; after a while, they just didn't let USA score; it stayed at 5 for quite a while, and that's great (though toward the end the USA did manage to get a sixth in, argh). It's too bad the Finns didn't manage to get one in, though. Sigh.
...And I still really wish they'd kicked the US team's ass, but I guess one can't have everything.
In other news, we have another gold, and I'm rather pleased about it. 8D

Date: 2010-02-19 12:27 pm (UTC)In completely unrelated news, have you got some sort of a feel for the undergraduate English program at U of S? My cousin is considering going there for her BA. It's between U of A and U of S, and she was thinking of doing English or history or some sort of social sciences.

Date: 2010-02-19 07:13 pm (UTC)Hmmmm the UofS undergrad program, eh? Well, I don't know much about history etc, but for English, from what I've seen, it's pretty much the same deal everywhere, at least for intro. I'm not sure how it compares to the UofA, but I expect class sizes might be slightly smaller here. I do know our profs are really good (but then again, I suspect the ones at UofA are as well). One advantage we do have is that UofS is a smaller university, thus has a small English department (still huge compared to Acadia though, wow) so it might be easier to get individual attention / actually get to know your profs than it would be at a huge place like U of A.
Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell ya', man.

Date: 2010-02-24 05:10 am (UTC)I have watched Saiyuki, Weiss Kreuz, Trigun, and Utena too. lol, wow that's a lot. But I haven't read the manga. Trigun is sad (well the overall story is very spunky and fun and cowboy Western but it has a sad part at the end.) Utena is freaky but in a good way. Saiyuki is fun and very long, and has a bunch of fillers (like you said.) Weiss Kreuz, the animation sucks but I loved the seiyuu heh.

Date: 2010-02-24 05:20 am (UTC)Even though the animation for Weiss Kreuz sucked really badly, and the plot was ridiculous, I still have such a soft spot for it. It's just so deliciously bad. But originally, I was interested in it because of the seiyuu, and because of the music.
