Sep. 13th, 2009 03:14 amI broke my key in the lock today. :|
This is not the first time I've done this. It happened once when I was living back home. Broke it right off in the lock. But that time, my father was the one who got the bit of key out, as it was stuck. This time, I had to do it myself. I was unable to wiggle the thing out, and after quite a while of trying I gave up and took the entire lock apart. Thank the gods my father left me his screwdriver, saying, "You never know when you might need it". Indeed.
So, that was done, and I eventually got the thing out after greasing with olive oil and wiggling a hairpin in there. Sigh. And fortunately for me, I have a spare key, so I'm still good. But I was rather worried for a while there.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go out for my evening run because of this. Think I might do it in the morning to make up for it. When I'm unable to do it, I tend to end up feeling rather stiff and antsy.
Aside from that, the day was utterly unremarkable. I did homework, but not enough. I did not write. I did not do anything useful. I feel like a lump and I should be in bed. :|

Date: 2009-09-13 10:18 am (UTC)Thing is, I didn't have a spare copy. And it was *not* my appartment. Do you know how expensive this was? Fffff.... a crime I tell you.
I still think olive oil could have done the thick but I couldn't get any then.

Date: 2009-09-14 03:34 am (UTC)I hope I can find mine when I move back to the UK.But eh, if you can just take out your lock with a screwdriver, isn't that rather unsafe?

Date: 2009-09-14 05:51 am (UTC)However, I do suspect that my lock is not a good one, and could be easily picked if someone put a mind to it. :\ I'm very glad I live in a relatively safe (though rather noisy) part of town.

Date: 2009-09-14 06:05 am (UTC)I'll pick noise over dodgy neighbours anytime. Well, it helps that I seem to be deafer than most people
though it creeps the hell out of them when they can hear stuff that I can't.no subject
Date: 2009-09-14 06:10 am (UTC)Actually, I did see the white text, but decided not to comment on it ;p
I don't mind the noise much, but it's annoying when people set off firecrackers in the alleyway right outside my house :|

Date: 2009-09-14 06:14 am (UTC)Wait, firecrackers? That's quite... random. Why firecrackers? You mean for New Year's Eve and days like that?
no subject
Date: 2009-09-14 06:16 am (UTC)Yes, firecrackers, and frequently people do it for no reason at all. You can buy them at the dollar store, you see, so sometimes people just take them and set them off wherever.
And sometimes people do it for holidays, like Canada Day etc. And for pseudo-holidays like Alexander Keith's Day (like a Canadian St. Patrick's day. There is lots of booze involved). But sometimes people do it just because they're douches.

Date: 2009-09-14 06:26 am (UTC)Well, if they're easy to get and bound to annoy people... it's like cheap thrills.
I like firecrackers. At a sufficiently far distance. And with forewarning. And at a reasonable time of the day.

Date: 2009-09-14 06:28 am (UTC)Same here - I like them in the afternoon, and in somewhere safe, like a deserted parking lot. Ahhhh I remember back at my old school, we - and by that I mean me and the Classics Society nerds - would take them and set them off like that, and it'd be a lot of fun~

Date: 2009-09-14 06:37 am (UTC)I used to play with them when I was kid, with a bunch of cousins, and everyone will applaud and shout with joy everytime a firecracker is set off even though we've set so many off because it doesn't take much to make you happy when you're a kid.
Now everyone's grown up and jaded and all the young 'uns only want to play those newfangled video games /grumble grumble

Date: 2009-09-14 06:43 am (UTC)I never got to experience firecrackers as a kid, because my parents are a bit stuffy and object to a lot of 'fun' things. But I did get to see the big fireworks shows on Canada Day. It wasn't until I got to university that I got to experience small firecrackers. Eee.
Sometimes I feel so old - and so it's strange when I experience something for the first time that people have been doing since they were small. o.0

Date: 2009-09-14 06:53 am (UTC)I can't remember when was the last time I played with them, too long ago, but I know I like those sparkly ones, the ones that are long like sticks and when you light up one end it'll fizz and sparkle most magnificently. Ah, good times, good times.
On the other hand, I have never watched a fireworks show in person until a couple of years ago. My parents weren't keen on getting stuck in traffic jams so we normally watch them on tv.
Yes, Grandad.

Date: 2009-09-14 06:57 am (UTC)SPARKLERS. OMG THOSE ARE THE BEST. But ahhhh I haven't been able to play with them in so long~
What we used to do, see, for Canada Day, is my father would take us out on the river in his boat. The fireworks would be set off from the big island in the middle of the river, see, and people would watch them from the town-side. So we sidestepped the traffic that way, and we got the best view, because we were right out there, far enough away from city and car lights that it wouldn't be distracting. :D
And I am not that old. Sob.

Date: 2009-09-14 07:06 am (UTC)See, I knew they were called something that starts with "spark" but for some reason all I could think of was "sparklies" orz. BUT YES THEY ARE THE BEST.
Damn, that sounds so fun. I watched the fireworks at the London Eye a couple of years back, and I was there since before 9pm to stake out a good spot. It was so bloody crowded. But having a good view of the fireworks was awesome.
The drunks and perverts, not so much.no subject
Date: 2009-09-14 07:09 am (UTC)Gehhh, crowds suck so much. But I bet it was worth it. <3 (I can't imagine being in a place like that though - London is so big and thinking about it, my brain can't even handre it, pff. Too many people.)

Date: 2009-09-14 07:23 am (UTC)I met up with a friend from Netherlands before, and she said the same thing- about how London is just so crowded. tbh, I never thought about it but then again, I'm used to crowds.
And pfffft, don't worry, it's easier to handre than you think. I have a laughable sense of direction and I'm still alive! If you ever make your way there, let me know <3
