Date: 2014-08-08 07:28 pm (UTC)I just totally don't know what's happened and it's bugging me orz
And since I seek your words of wisdom, I also have to admit I'm not sure why Daadh sent Freund to the hypnotism show. Did he simply not think about it or did he try to make some sort of point?

Date: 2014-08-08 07:56 pm (UTC)I... don't remember enough about the scene with Magdalena and Dåådh to be sure at this time. But going by what you said here, I would say that he considers it a mistake due to their circumstances (it's not just that she's married, it's also that she's his employer's wife). BUT there might be more than that, I'll give you a more definite answer after I re-watch that episode.
You're right that the subs might be at issue too; I remember that the downloadable fansubs I had when I watched it the first time were not the best. Not bad, but at times there was some Swenglish. You're probably using the same ones I think. Since I'm watching from the DVDs now, I will be able to see if the official subs say anything different. (And while my Swedish isn't very good, I might be able to tell if the original dialogue is radically different...)
Re: Dåådh, Freund, and the hypnotism show, I'm pretty sure there is meant to be some kind of point being made there, but I don't know what. I think it's the next one I'll be watching, so I'll give you more details then.
I realize this is all "lol idk I'll get back to you on it" but orz

Date: 2014-08-08 09:00 pm (UTC)I'm getting a little frustrated with these subs actually, sob, I think I miss a lot of things because of them. I don't even remember where I downloaded them from. Maybe if I rewatch it I'll try looking for different ones - if there are some different ones, that is.
I've got one ep left and I'm kind of nervous, the one before the last ends in such a gloomy way! And I'm afraid that the ending will be sad. I mean, it's not a happy show anyway, dealing with the injustice and, you know, so I guess all I can hope for is "not a totally horrible ending plz". But it's not a pleasant sort of hope to have D:
Yuuuuu, what have you done, getting me all invested.
Also, I absolutely agree that it should've been longer, as in, have more stuff in the middle.

Date: 2014-08-08 09:06 pm (UTC)From what I remember, the series ended in a very satisfying way for me, so I want to say "don't worry too much" but I don't wanna give you hope only for you to end up disappointed.
I AM glad that you feel the same about stuff in the middle. There are lots of things they could have done, more development with the revolutionary plot perhaps, or just y'know another murder of the week, but yeah. I want mooooar.

Date: 2014-08-08 11:08 pm (UTC)why does this happen. But yeah even in this episode I see the characters talking more than there are subs!!! it's frustrating!!
and I'm also very nervous as to what marta's told nordin 'n'

Date: 2014-08-08 11:49 pm (UTC)there's that SUPER word in polish, "wzruszyć się", it may be translated into "being moved by something", but it's more like "being jerked by something and also feeling tears coming maybe though they don't have to actually appear" AND I GOT LIKE THAT
wzruszyłam się ;u;

Date: 2014-08-09 12:09 am (UTC)Your feelings are my feelings! [/sweeps up] [/spins around] I mean yes, it isn't a perfectly happy ending, but it's a good ending, a very good ending. It's exactly as you said. And this is why I wish there was more, but I also wouldn't want a second season, because the ending is so good. It's exactly the ending it should have.

Date: 2014-08-09 02:39 pm (UTC)Anyway, yes, I also think the ending is so good and -- like you said earlier -- so satisfying, that second season would either have to bring something new with it and be awesome, or there's no sense in having it at all.
Though the story should be longer! Not only filled with murders of the week; there's also quite a few things I'd love to see explored further. Magdalena's relationship with her husband, for example. I feel it's been nicely outlined, but could be fleshed out more. He cares for her, though doesn't see her wholly as a person, not like he sees men - that's pretty straightforward. But I'm really interested in how Magdalena sees him. We get to know that he proposed to her quite a few times before she agreed to marry him. I wonder what happened that made her say yes in the end, I wonder if she ever loved him or at least thought she could. Well, it'd be a nice topic for a fanfic, too.
I don't think she loved him at the time that the show takes place. After her kiss with Daadh she doesn't seem to take Carl Fredrik's feelings into consideration, I'm not sure she even mentions him at all; she thinks about the marriage itself, not about him personally.
Also, their children! I wish there was more of them, and more of Magdalena's relationship with them. When I told you I shipped Magdalena/Daadh/Freund you said you'd pay closer attention to Magdalena's interactions with Freund - I just wanted to point out Freund's relationship with her children. He's their tutor, but there's that one scene when they're chasing one another, even though he's recovering and barely has the strength. THIS. WAS. SUCH. A. CUTE. SCENE. And one that showed us that there was more affection between the kids and Freund than is strictly necessary for tutor/pupils relationship!
(And since I'm talking about kids anyway, I kind of adore how Daadh obviously cares about children a lot, but is absolutely horrible at dealing with them, ahahah.)
I... can go on and on but I scared myself with the length of this comment so far, so maybe I'll just. cease. For now.

Date: 2014-08-09 03:18 pm (UTC)AH you mentioning Magdalena's relationship with her husband, that is something that I found interesting as well when I was first watching it (and still do). I find their relations very interesting... Herr Wahlstedt is so, well, I think he means well, and it looks like he takes his duty as a husband seriously, but his view of what that duty entails is very much what one would expect for a man of his station at this time period.... And as you said, he doesn't seem to see her as fully a person, which is so unfortunate. When I was watching ep 3 yesterday that aspect really hit me - especially in that scene where they are talking about that pamphlet that was found being distributed. And how part of it talks about how men should treat women with dignity... and their interaction is so strikingly not like that in comparison.
Crap, now I really wish I knew how she ended up with him, because they're so mis-matched as far as their ideals. :|a
Anyway. Your commentary on Freund + kids is spot on and I want to subscribe to your newsletter. He's so... ANIMATED when he's around them. Very :D? Which is a lot different than he is in a lot of other situations - well, at least in some parts it seems like he's having so much of a sulk, so it makes the scenes like the chasing scene stand out. Buhyoo. (And Dåådh's awkwardness - you know, I never noticed that before? Maybe because it seems like he's often awkward for some reason or other. But now that I think of it, you're probably right about him and kids, I'll have to take a look at that.)

Date: 2014-08-09 08:24 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's obvious he loves her and acts as he thinks he should. I think it's one of the strong points of the show, actually; that we can see that it's not enough to love someone, you have to respect them as well. At one point Daadh tells Magdalena to not get quiet in his presence (or something like this) because he'd love to hear her thoughts, and he looks so sincere when he says it -- and there's the acknowledgment of humanity in both of them here. It was also the moment I started seriously shipping them ;p
Huh! That's interesting, because I didn't see Daadh as particularly awkward :O More like... wanting things to be something else than they are and acting as if it were so. So he comes off as slightly... out of tune, so to speak, but not because of some sort of awkwardness. Like there's a dissonance between the situation he acts for and the situation that actually takes place. To me, he kind of play-acts throughout the show, and when he realizes that he can't do it all the time, that it's not going to work, that the situation that actually is sometimes doesn't allow this play-acting, he wants to leave. I think the finale is an enormous -- maybe even final -- step in his character development, when he truly comes to terms with how the world really looks.
But back to children! There'll be a moment when he tries interrogating a kid and Freund's just looking on and finally clears his throat and helps bc it just doesn't go anywhere. And at one point he questions Magdalena's son and though he's very stressed and the situation is serious, he doesn't know how to go about it either and frightens the kid.
Also re: your ask about me making stuff! I'd LIKE to write fic, but I haven't written anything in so long, and I can't do plotty stuff at ALL, so all I could do would be... fluff... which, well. Idk how it fits. And the setting, it's a problem to me, too.
So, gifsets sound pretty safe, esp that they help me analyze the scenes again and very closely! Like, I started on the gifset with Magdalena. We see her first when she talks to a pregnant girl, which references her interests and what is clearly her passion. It's an amazing way to introduce a character, particularly so a woman!

Date: 2014-08-12 01:47 am (UTC)I haven't been much able to get far since our last conversation, and this makes me sad. orz Oh well. I'll... take my time!
Re: fanfic and fluff. That... you make a good point, but I also think that depending on the kind of fluff, it could work. :|a Possibly. At least you could always poke me if you needed advice about the setting? :D Or Clara for more in-depth stuff of course. But gifsets like the one you did are also awesome /o/ Because I need more pretty Anno 1790 stuff on my blog and it's nice to have something new in the tag. (Magdalenaaaaaa)
I keep feeling like "I should finish something else first" because I have other fic on the go. But we'll see. The main thing that intimidates me so much is character voice. How?? does one even??? I DON'T KNOW sob if it weren't for that I think I would have written something already....
