Well, fuck.
Nov. 10th, 2010 11:29 pmMan. Today was just... yeahh.
Fell sick. Last night I could feel it coming, but then today it really crept up on me. Started feeling not-good a few hours into work, and by the afternoon my throat was sore and I felt warm and dizzy. I kept trying to haul boxes and unpack stock but I felt weak as hell. What a pain in the ass.
Brenda told me that if I still feel that way tomorrow, I should just stay home. She's probably right. It might just be a cold, or it might be something worse, who knows. I'll try to fight it off with fluids and rest for now.
I didn't want to work on the 11th - it's Remembrance Day and I am very much against working on that day - but calling in sick wasn't exactly what I had in mind.
Anyway. More importantly - One of my brother's dogs, you know, the ones we babysit all the time, he was seriously injured today. It was the Pointer, Louie, and it was an accident and we're not really sure what caused it - he twisted himself, or something. Unfortunately, we're not sure what's wrong with him exactly. Signs point to a spinal injury, or a slipped disc, or something of the sort. Basically, his back legs aren't working and he's in a lot of pain.
If an MRI could be done, the problem could be pinpointed. Unfortunately, there isn't an MRI machine anywhere near here. This is the north, and we don't have those things available to us. The nearest is in Edmonton, five hours away. So, best advice the vet could give was thus: Absolute bedrest, minimal movement; he'll have to be kennelled for 30 days or so. And if there isn't any improvement after 5 days, spinal surgery might be needed... or it's possible he might be paralysed. And... well. If that happens, he'll have to be put down. But it really depends on how the first five days go.
Obviously, we're all really upset about it... but, not much can be done 'cept look after him and make sure he gets his pills. My brother doesn't work tomorrow, so he'll be staying here overnight. We've set the dog up on a sleeping bag in the parlour and my bro will be sleeping in that room tonight.
I just, man. It's upsetting. That dog annoys the fuck out of me, sure, but he's part of the family and I hate seeing anyone in my family hurt.
