Judo adventures 4.21
Nov. 17th, 2025 10:05 pmAttending: Me, C, Eth, Ma & Jo, G, and also the boy whose name I didn't know, No, and the girl whose name I didn't know, Ve. TN-sensei instructing.
I partnered with No for this class.
Started off with uchikomi. Then we worked on kouchigari.
Kouchigari is not one of my favourite throws. It is a very tricky sweep. But we got some tips for dealing with it. Draw your left foot in close to the right, and as you do, draw the left arm in. Scoop low with your right foot, catching the foot on your left. With your right arm, it kind of pushes into the chest; the left hand draws them back and down.
If you're moving backward, then rather than stepping to the side, you plant your left foot back as you would with most forward throws. The rest is the same.
Then we did some throwing practice for a bit.
I enjoyed working with No. It was a really good workout! He's a white belt, but he's already picked up a lot and is coming along really well, I'm pretty impressed.
It was a very basic class, but I had a great time.
I think I'm going to be reducing my classes. I didn't go this past Saturday, and I think I won't go this upcoming Saturday either. It's about time that I admit that I can't go to Saturday class and have time for anything else and have energy for anything else. An occasional thing is fine, but not every weekend.
