I found myself thinking that I really miss NaNoWriMo. It's not so much a Thing any more for various reasons; a lot of people have tried to cook up replacements, but of course it's not quite the same.

There used to be in-person write-ins here in Fort Mac, and they were pretty fun while they lasted. Bummer that they aren't a thing any more. (Not that I'm going to put the effort into starting that up again.)

:Va I was kind of thinking about making a Writing Goal for November, but I think it might be more achievable to aim for finishing at least one thing, rather than a specific wordcount. We'll see!

It's not exactly a replacement but GYWO is doing an event for the end of the year: https://getyourwordsout.dreamwidth.org/914471.html.

This is a mood. I didn't do NaNoWriMo often, and never managed to attend an in-person write-in which sounded super fun. But I know people who went really far with it, and now it kind of feels like watching the sun set on an era.

Sending good vibes and fingers crossed for your writing goal of finishing a thing! 💪️💪️ Yuu can do it :D

Right?? It feels like the end of an era of kink memes too. Like, aww, it was a pop-up shop all along, and the party's over :'( And given what the people who would have been doing it now are doing, shifting trends, etc, it dually feels like the environmental conditions that had given rise to it are changed.

Sometimes I feel like it's just the natural flux of things. I have hope that maybe there will be a new thing that takes NaNo's place and is equally as enjoyable, but it's like how forums have been replaced by discord - similar in some senses but very much not a 1:1 mapping. I guess we use the tools that are 1) available to us and 2) what's popular and accessible to funnel in the most people, and that's always a democracy argument.
