Judo club drama continued
Oct. 31st, 2024 07:51 pmOkay, so.
Our regular sensei quit. Rather, the club sent out an email saying that they would be parting ways, and I just kind of assumed that he quit because he didn't like the terms of the new contract. Kind of a bummer, but not super surprising in hindsight, good luck to him etc.
But then Sensei sent out a bunch of messages on Teamsnap, email, and text message, saying that he had been unfairly let go without warning or opportunity for negotiation, and that he was going to start his own judo club, and that people who object to the board's decision should bring it up with the board during Nov 04's parent meeting.
After that, the board said that what Sensei says is his own opinion and that from this point on he does not speak on the club's behalf, that he WAS given opportunity to meet with them and discuss and negotiate but he did not respond to requests to do this before he decided to leave, and that there will be a meeting about this but there currently is not one planned for Nov 04th.
So, uh. That happened.
At this point I'm slightly more inclined to believe the board's side of things, given the information that I have about the contract and the negotiation and the personalities of the people involved. But for the most part I'm just like "Uhhh... what?" This is quite an explosive drama, and I don't really know how to feel about it.
I will be staying with my current club, since I've paid them up for the rest of the year. I feel like things have really blown up, and I don't know what will happen next. Anyway... we'll see how things go. If I'll be honest, I prefer the style of our other instructors, and I also think that there is room for more than one judo club in the city if my former Sensei does decide to form one (I think more likely scenario is he'll join up with one of the for-profit mixed sport dojos and offer judo classes there, but...???), but what a way to go about things. Jesus.

Date: 2024-11-03 02:31 pm (UTC)I'm meeting socially with the club president today and on the one hand I want allll the gory details, but on the other I think I probably won't ask 'cause surely she's sick of talking about it. But omg.
